GL 350 BlueTec 2 fuel injectors need to be replaced in two weeks

2014 GL350 BT, 21K miles, in shop for faulty injector
Just thought I would add my own experience. Picked up a 2014 GL350 Bluetec last September (it was one of the first 2014's off the line, according to the dealer - we ordered it in May 2013). This morning, suddenly, CEL comes on, and car is running rougher than normal. Took it to the dealer, and they diagnosed it as "faulty injector", which is being replaced.
We are in MA, near boston, and the car has been fueled at the same gas-station every time. Will post an update when we get the car back.
This is our first diesel, and we bought it because we had read the diesels last forever (at $75K, we needed it to last forever ). Doesn't look like a promising start here...

ML 350 engine problems
Sorry to hear your having these problems. Our problems continue and Mercedes has decided to replace our vehicle with a new one. We opted to go with a 2015 ML 250 that has the twin turbocharged four cylinder diesel since we have heard from numerous sources the V6 diesel continues to have issues. That said, we do have fiends with the V6 who have no issues at all, which is what really stumps me. Hope you get your issues solved soon, we spent over a year trying to work through them.

I wonder why there are more failures in GL cars, I have not seen many complaints from E350 Bluetec owners regarding injectors. My 2011 E350 is doing fine after 20k miles. As security I purchased extended warranty at purchase.

GL350, Faulty Injectors update...
As promised, an update. Got our GL350 back, it was in the shop for a week. They replaced fuel injector #1. Based on info in this forum, they also updated the software.
The good (and, to me, odd) news is that the car is suddenly delivering more mileage than it was. Before, it would average about 20-21, and on long highway runs (100 miles), I could push it to 24 mpg. Now, it averages 24, and I can easily push it to 27!
The other good news is that I discovered just how good Mercedes service dept is. Got the car serviced at Mercedes of Natick (MA), where we bought it. Cory McClanahan was awesome, keeping me updated through the week, even though on a couple of days he didn't have good news to report. It's so much better if one is in the loop, and so easy for the service manager to punt. His manager (I believe, Dan) was also excellent.
Cory did confirm that the fuel injector design had changed, and the replacement was of the new design. They couldn't pull off the replacement of all the other injectors, but they did give me an extra 1 year and 75K warranty! I think that's fair - I took it as them standing by their (older design) product.
The only bad news is that I swear the car sounds rougher - like a diesel - from the outside. The equivalent of knocking on a gas car. But, from the inside, it rides like a dream, as it used to. So, perhaps I am being over sensitive. Of course, my wife, whose car it is, is disappointed - she didn't expect a Mercedes to have a major engine problem, so soon. Our 9 year old Honda Odyssey, which we never traded in, hasn't had a single problem and is still going strong, even though my wife swore that it was about to die any day and used that as the excuse to get the GL350 :-)

2014 GL 350 Blue Tec "Check Engine" Light
Two weeks ago I picked up my new 2014 GL 350 Blue Tec and 200 miles later the "check engine" light came on. The car has been in the MB shop twice; the light came back on 7 miles after the 4th injector was replaced. I've been reading about this problem on this forum and I'm wondering if any of you who have had this problem were able to get it fixed? Is this a lemon? Has MB figured out how to fix the problem? Or, should I demand my money back?

CEL after 200 miles - 4 injectors replaced - still CEL

The problem with my car seems to have been resolved after they replaced the one injector. They did confirm to me that they injector design and vendor had changed, and the replacement injector was of the new design/vendor. Unfortunately, they refused to replace the other 5 - and instead, extended my warranty by 1 year/25K miles.
It is troubling to hear of continued problems of this type.
Having said this, I wonder if someone at the dealer put gasoline in your car, then attempted to flush the system, before delivery. I have heard rumors that that is not an uncommon happening - after all, the gofer they send out to get the cars fueled and washed before delivery isn't exactly the brightest cookie from Stuttgart. Regardless of the root cause, if I were in your shoes, I'd ask for the money back and get another GL from a different dealership.

Bluetec injector problems
We now have 26,000 miles on our 2013 ML350 Bluetec desiel. MB has decided to replace the car and we are expecting the 2015 ML 250 to arrive this week at our dealer. Our injector problems were never solved and the engine sounds like a Duramax engine. We love this car, it is a wonderful road car, we often commute to our vacation home which is 500 miles away and it is an easy trip. We are hoping the engine problems will be over when we get the new car. MB has been wonderful to work with, both at the dealer level and corporate through the year and a half of try to solve this problem. If you have one of these troubled engines don't wait, get another car, there is no solution other than that. Good luck.

13 ML Bluetec
I have 48k miles on my 2013 ML Bluetec. I had CEL light problems early on (3-4k miles) and it was very frustrating and I questioned my purchase. The dealer replaced exhaust sensor and did software update and its been wonderful. I average 28 mpg combined.
FYI I also tow about 5000 lbs 3-4x year and this diesel is just awesome.

2018 AMG GTR, gone 2017 AMG GT, 2015 GL 550, 2008 GL320, 1992 e500
Wow, after spending my morning reading about all the issues with diesel engines, I have been very lucky with no issues with my 2008 GL 320 CDI after 80k miles. I also have an Itasca Motorhome with a 2013 MB Bluetech engine in it with no issues so far. Wonder if all the sprinter out there have simlar issues. Decided to trade in my reliable GL for the new 550 since they don't offer the sports package in the US. I do miss the gas mileage but love the pickup and silence while driving thru underground parking. Sure hope MB resolves this issue.

2014 GL 350 Blue Tec "Check Engine" Light
In December I reported that I had two "check engine" lights within the first 200 hundred miles that I put on my new 2014 GL350 Blue Tec. I left it in the dealer's shop over the Christmas-New Year holiday while I was in Europe. I picked it up on Jan 2, 2015 and have since drove it almost 1600 miles and have not had any issues. The service department at the dealer was extremely professional about my problem and very courteous. I want to thank Ed especially for his help and guidance. And, Jim, the salesman was also extremely helpful and has followed up several times with me. Most recently he has provided me with the link for MB's pamphlet on Diesel fuel. The car is a "beautiful ride" and I'm pleased that it has worked out so well.

code p02cd cylinder 1 2013 gl350
wow this forum has scared the pants off me. i just bought a gl350 bluetec and after 10 mins of driving the check engine light went on and when the car is in park it starts vibrating/shaking a lot. i took it straight to autozone and it came back with the code 'p02cd cylinder 1'. it has 68k miles. dont know if it had issues before i dont know. carfax came out clean.
it has completely ruined my faith in the dealer and i just feel so bad and paranoid about driving it now. it was supposed to be our family car and now theres no joy or excitement just pure fear and paranoia. i guess i'm trying to find some solace.

thanks for the quick response. i'm lost when you say 'the default coverage is 1 additional year...' and having the CPO issue is better or worst? sorry.

Since your mileage is 68k and is a 2013, assuming it was put in service late 2012 or early 2013, it may have been out of the standard 4yr/50k warranty which means it cannot be certified as a CPO and sold by a Mercedes dealer.
Did you buy it from a Mercedes dealer or some other used car dealer?
As I was saying with CPO, even if it is certified and sold by a Mercedes dealer, it doesn't guarantee it was throughly checked out either. Quick search in forum, you can see coolant leak reported on a CPO that was just purchased.
https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...lant-leak.html
Bottom line is, if you are buying a 4 yr old 68k miles German car from a used car dealer, you are taking a risk. If you pay more and buy a CPO from Mercedes, there's a peace of mind that during the CPO process, the Mercedes dealer will do due diligence and throughly go over the truck and fix what is needed, but is not a guarantee.
But at least with CPO, you get 1 year of warranty with unlimited miles. They will fix it, even with a new engine as one recent forum member posted.
If you bought it used from a 3rd party, hopefully you bought it with some extended warranty. Otherwise you are SOL.

ah ok. now i understand. thanks. yah it wasn't a cpo and not from a mercedes dealer. used car shop. but i did get an extended 5yr 100k warranty.. covered everything except for wear and tear and some parts of the fuel line... i guess that was only dumb part. they are saying its a misfiring as well ... ordering parts ... i do feel somewhat better but i will take the car to a mercedes dealership and get it checked as well since they say the warranty is good at all mercedes dealerships.

Sadly I have to agree about the lack of thoroughness of CPO checks. My wife and I bought a CPO 2013 GL550 from MB of Wilsonville (Oregon). Paid cash and they kept it a couple days to address some issues we spotted on it (minor cosmetic stuff). Drove it a couple months and wife had a blowout on the way to beach. Turns out both rear tires were bald, steel belts showing. No way she drove it enough for that much wear. Dealer replaced both tires without argument but should never have left their lot this way, CPO or not. I should have looked closer too of course but would never believe they would be do careless/negligent. Be vigilant.

update: the used car dealer replaced the fuel injector cylinder 1. i dont know if he did more than that.. and like mitalium said above it feels a bit rougher and louder from the outside. the shaking has stopped when in it is park. however an hour later the CEL light came back on... went straight to autozone and this time it was a bad O2 sensor.. bank 1 sensor 2. now im a bit skeptical and worried that this might lead to more issues like a bad catalytic converter ...and thats just money!
I'm thinking of ways to cancel this purchase as this is getting ridiculous. i had the car for about 4 days and it has spent 2 days in the shop..and going back again tomorrow.
is it worth keeping?

Unless the dealer is being nice, they will tell you to deal with warranty. Undo-ing a vehicle purchase is not a simple matter. At least you have the extended warranty. Imagine otherwise.
If this had been a CPO from Mercedes, at least you have 500 miles / 7 days to change your mind and get a different vehicle per Mercedes:
>>
Every Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned vehicle is sold with a seven day/500 mile Exchange Privilege*. If you are not satisfied, return within seven days/500 miles (whichever comes first), and the authorized Mercedes-Benz Dealer will exchange it with another Certified Pre-Owned vehicle of equal or greater value (if the buyer wishes to pay the difference).
<<
Since your aftermarket warranty allows you to go to any dealer, I suggest finding the best Mercedes dealer near you and have them throughly go over the vehicle and fix anything that is malfunctioning. Not familiar with aftermarket warranty, but I suppose you may have to pay first and then file your claims.
I'm also skeptical the non-Mercedes selling dealer could have replaced your fuel injector in the same day you brought it over. It's unlikely they have the parts handy and I don't think they would have driven to a Mercedes dealer to buy the part.
All sounds very fishy. Do you mind sharing the selling dealership info? Also, if you post your VIN number, perhaps fabbrids1 would be kind enough to pull the VMI to see the service history of the vehicle.

thanks jlim. they have their own repair shop down the street. and he is being nice in the sense that he said he would cancel the deal if it's getting too costly.. for who? idk. but i want that in writing so that i have nothing to pay for. ill even walk away and lose the down payment if need be. just to get that peace of mind back.
the carfax checked out..but still like you said what parts are being used and what not.
VIN: 4JGDF2EE6DA206063
Dealer is highlineautosales ... they seem to be good people and got great reviews.
appreciate the help and efforts.

went to the dealer to get a full diagnostics...and it seems like the downstream NOx sensor is causing the issue.. and he found a couple of other things like the timing chain is making a small rattle..and the cv joint boot is torn. the dealership who sold it to me said they will fix it all... so we'll see for now.
Also the analysis showed ...driveline fluid service needs to be replaced. is that like a transmission oil flush?

I just had mine (NoX sensors) replace this week. I guess this vehicle is just as troublesome as my 164 ML Bluetec. Keep $2k per year in the bank for repairs.
