Took delivery of my '14 350--DVD/iPad options

So i decided when I ordered my 350 to skip rear seat electronics for the kids which I had on my 07. We rarely used them and they have kindle fires and iPads available to them. Now I have a mutiny on my hands.

I didn't even get prewiring. Do I have any options-I'd rather do iPads?

Thanks-I need to post pics of my awesome new ride.

I didn't order it either. My husband didn't like that they weren't very built-in looking and I think it's outdated technology. Most of our movies are blu-ray or digital. I plan to get the iPad or Kindle Fire headrest holders from Amazon and use those for longer car trips. If they have wifi, they can even stream Netflix or Amazon Prime. For movies they currently have on DVD I will rip them to digital (you can get software like DVDFab for that and it's legal as long as you own the DVD). That way I won't have to bring a pile of DVD's, either. The iPads and Kindle Fire's will be thinner looking than the factory DVD upgrade, less expensive, and offer games and other options.

I am very happy with iPads and my ipad mounts (non MB). For me it is the right way to go.

Check out my pics I posted in the 164 forum in my '12 GL.

I bought the gripdaddy mounts for our GL also. Before a trip. I just dl a bunch of shows/movies for the kids on their ipads. They can then take the ipad with them and use it our destination.

I think this is a better and cheaper alternative to the factory system/pre-wire.

These are by far the best headrest mounts for ipads -

Amazon.com: Audiovox Integrated Stand/Connecting Arm for iPad 2/3 (IPD-2HP): Computers & Accessories Amazon.com: Audiovox Integrated Stand/Connecting Arm for iPad 2/3 (IPD-2HP): Computers & Accessories

Not only are they nice sturdy cases, but they can be hardwired to provide the ipad with a charge the entire time they are being used in the car. They also come with wireless headphones as well as an option to pass the audio through the cars speakers. A bit pricey at a little over $100 but well worth it in the long run.

Do the gripdaddys swivel much to the side? Could the middle or opposite row passenger see it ok? If the kids were sharing one screen, then I could plug the audio into the stereo system without needing headphones. I also looked at the centered "arm" version but worried about visibility for the driver in the rear-view mirror.

Also, can you use the headphone jack of an iPad or Kindle Fire to connect to the vehicle's stereo system? If so, what kind of cord do you use?

If you get the AudioVox ones I reference above then you can use the FM transmitter inside the ipad holder to wirelessly send the audio to a preselected radio station - thus passing the audio through to your car speakers. It's wonderful - no cords or anything.

you could also stream via bluetooth directly from the ipad.

Also, the gripdaddy does swivel but it is limited to a few degrees. Not the amount of swivel you are looking for. You already saw the "arm" one as well and you are correct that it may block the rear view similar to if you had the middle headrest up in the second row.

The gripdaddy does swivel a little bit but probably not enough for the person on the opposite side to really see comfortably.

For you, the center arm version would work well. It won't block rear view any more than if a person is sitting in the center seat. Our last vehicle had screens that came out of the ceiling, and def blocked rear view, but it wasn't that big a deal.

For us, we have an iPad 1, an iPad 2 and a Kindle Fire. So the gripdaddy is great in that it accomodates all three. Otherwise you need a specific mount for each specific tablet.
