how to open rear quarter side vent windows

I just took delivery of a 2014 GL450 and forgot to ask how to open the 3rd row side vent windows.

On the 2012 there was a button near the window buttons. There is no similar side vent window button on the door in the 2014. The printed manual says to consult the digital manual for windows. What's that?

Anyway, where is the button to open and close the rear side windows. Please tell me that they open!!!!!!! and that they didn't delete this feature.

If you do not have it as an option, they do not open. I have a trunk release in the vicinity of where the buttons should be. Some of the other GLs I looked at had the extra button to open the windows but they were specifically listed as an option on the spec-sheet.

There should be a button right next to the trunk release on the drivers door, about half way below the window buttons. I really doubt it's a standalone option, it should be included in all cars.

It is not standard. I have attached a picture of the driver's door on my 2014 GL450 without the option on the build sheet.

I have attached copies of two different 2014 GL450s on my dealer's lot, one with the 848 Power Rear Quarter Windows option and one without.

I stand corrected. I didn't realize they would make it an option. I test drove a number of 450s and 550s with that button included and assumed it was standard. I'm looking to get a 550 and think it is standard on it. Thanks.

I ordered mine when the 2013s were still on the lot and I wasn't given any build sheet with that option. I also assumed it was included in an $70,000 truck!!!! WTF! I called the dealer today and they just heard about this "option" today. I'm pissed off. Mbusa said it is part of the panorama roof package, but online the website makes no mention of these windows opening. Just shades.

My 2012 had it standard. Why would they cheap out and make this an option and keep it so low key. There should have been a sheet explaining differences between 2012, 2013, and 2014. Salespeople are useless. Don't go to foothill ranch mercedes.

I have a GL550 ordered and it was listed explicitly but there's no cost. I don't know if it was automatically added and listed (maybe in case someone wanted to delete it) or if the SA knew to add it????? I didn't notice it on the build for a GL550 either.

It wasn't on my spec sheet, but neither were the windshield wipers and tires. These things are standard and as a prior owner of a 2012 gl I assumed they were standard equipment. Mb USA website is very spotty when it comes to listing standard equipment. Who would think to even ask? What's next, I have to ask if lug nuts are included or motor oil? The sales manager did not mention it and he knew I was using the car for my three kids who use the third row every day in hot Southern California.

My Sales person told me it was standard on the GL350. But I am not sure if he ticked the check box for the "848" option. I guess I will know when the GL gets here next week. I am going to raise a stink if it is not included.

You are right mongo. Everything standard should be included without us specifically asking for it. If a customer does not want it, then he/she will request that it be removed. Otherwise it should be part of the build. How are we supposed to know to specifically ask for these standard equipment? Its not like MBUSA provides a detailed order sheet for its customers. Even if they did, I never saw one.
Same deal with the 293 rear side airbag. Its a no cost option, but we need to specify it. And the worst part is not many salespeople seem to know about all these different standard options to give the customer an informed choice. Everytime time I talk to my sales person, I feel like I know more about the car than he ever did! Crazy!

there were a surprising amount of little changes from 2013 to 2014 in terms of features that you have to order vs. being standard.

that is a shame that all dealers don't just automatically order the options that are $0.

do the rear quarter windows at least have a manual open/close latch or are they permanently closed?

The windows are permanently closed. I didn't even know there are 0$ options. Everything at mb has a price tag, so who would even think there are "free" options. This is the first car I have ever ordered because all of the ones the dealers had AF the time were over equipped. Why would extra safety airbags that are free options not be selected by the dealer? They don't have the best interest of their customers in mind at all. I would rather have my 2012 gl450 back at this point. The whole buying experience leaves me fuming.

Since I relied on the sales associate, I believe they breached a warranty of fitness for a particular purpose. The dealer knew of my prior vehicle configuration and my desire to have the new one configured the same way and failed to deliver on that. I'm thinking of taking my case to an attorney.

I understand your frustration. But before you get your attorney involved, why don't you talk to someone in the upper management at the dealership about your issues and give them a chance to make it right. It could be the Extended warranty /maintenance plan thrown in for free or something like 0% financing. But I agree, salesman should know all aspects of the car and the way they are conducting business is unprofessional. Let them make it right to you.

I have tried that already. The dealer won't help. Shoot this is my 3rd mercedes in 2 years and they treated my like poop when I bought this car. At lease return the sales manager wrote that my car needed a schedule c maintenance when the car only had 19,900 miles on it! He said the computer told him. When I told him the car didn't even exceed the schedule b limits he shrugged and wrote if up and told me to deal with mbfs when I got the bill. Now how are you going to make someone like that see things your way? These idiots will only take note of a litigation.

I'm not sure if it's the SA or MB communication or ???
The rear side airbags and Power Easy Entry are other examples of features that were in then out of standard options and buyers were surprised and disappointed with what they ended up with. The side air bags doesn't show up as a build option either. Power Easy Entry does, but the feature was removed from the package at some point so was confusing.

It is included on the spec sheet of my incoming GL550 as item 848 - power rear quarter window, without a cost associated with it. So could it be standard on the GL550??

I feel for you OP, it would be one thing if there were plenty of vehicles on the lot to confirm all the installed/standard options but I feel like most of us had to either build or locate vehicles sight unseen given the relative paucity of GLs. It makes the lack of transparency between MY13 and MY14 changes very frustrating.

I feel very fortunate to have a dealership that does everything possible to make you feel like they want you as a customer and to KEEP you as a customer!

i have an awesome dealer as well- and i have been told multiple times 'how come you know more about all this than we do'- simple answer- well car enthusiast- and if ur the one spending the money you obviously care more-- in any case, yes the dealer should know and usually doesnt.. when i ordered the satin wood noone had a clue what i was talking about- i had to point out the code and say how much the spc order charge was..

as for the rear windows- boy i had no idea they were not standard- i mean they were standard on the 1st gen!!

try this- may or may not work but worth a try- if you have touch lock/easy entry then press and hold the sensor (or you can do the same from your key fob) and on unlocking the vehicle pressing and holding unlock will open all windows and sunroof- and pressing and holding unlock (on sensor or key fob) will close all windows-- who knows may be that'll work..

as for an attorney/litigation- i dont think you'll need it and not sure how much they can help- one thing that will help for sure is a call or email to MB Corporate- they are really helpful, only once have I had a lady with an attitude but when i asked her to relax because my email was of a concern and not a complaint she was very nice and dealt with it professionally- remember they can have 'difficult and not caring' dealers change their attitude very quickly..

my 2 cents

The vent windows are definitely not there. They can only be ordered if you select the panoramic roof. I checked with mb USA when I called to complain.

What does that mean? Select panoramic roof, then select window, and then unselect panoramic roof if I don't want panoramic roof? Or is panoramic roof required to get this option?

What they ought to do is simply make EVERYTHING optional......provide you with the list of all options and you build the car. ( well sort of ) This business of one year its standard, one year its optional, one year its part of a package is very confusing, particularly if you are a repeat buyer and you are operating under "past assumptions." The other part that I don't like is when they make something a "no cost" option.....most often the sales folks don't know about those! ( no cost is fine, but clean up the process please!)

I would check for yourself, but my understanding is that to get the operating side vent windows you have to select pano roof. So it appears to me that the side vent windows are at least an $1100 option. Also, if you do the build on mbusa website and click on the pano roof option i noticed there is no mention of the side vent windows. Only side shades. Also, I didn't ask if its possible to get pano roof without side vent windows since that wasn't what I was concerned about.
