Hi, I was asked to do this months ago, and just now got around to it.

What accessories have you put on your GL?
Where did you get them?
Any installation problems/recommendations?

 

I'll start with my accessories.

1) Canvasback liner for the back. I bought it direct from Canvasback. I like that it covers the entire back with the 3rd row seats down. It's not great for wetness, works well for dirt. Attachment has to use velcro tape on the carpet as the X166 carpet doesn't catch the velcro loops like the X164.

2) AMG pedals. Bought OEM version on ebay, price was about $80. Easy installation (took minutes) to install, I like the looks and the functionality.

3) Chrome air wings. Bought them from Jerry at formymercedes.com for $109.00. These are not OEM, but the install was easy, I like the looks, and they are quite a bit less than the OEM versions.

4) Weathertech mats for front and center floors. Bought from my dealer with a discount coupon. I can't remember the price, but I think it was $150. I like them, wish the passenger mat went higher up the firewall.

I would love to find a pet divider net system like they had on the X164. Granted the mounting holes aren't there anymore, but I loved that for my dogs, and can't find anything like it for the X166.

I was thinking of doing the same on mine.

 

They are probably the same, but I bought mine from a seller called Germanparts. He was a little cheaper at the time.

 

Any more info on tailgate lifter handle? The website shows the trailer hitch (ie. I think they have wrong picture).

So far I've preordered mudflaps, MB floor mats & Lloyd rubbertite cargo liners, license bracket, logo keychains from Amazon, MB wheel locks, a new Kindle Fire HDX & accessories, a Gripdaddy arm thing to hold it in the center, plus a headphone splitter and earbuds. Also thinking about the device you can get to jailbreak the DVD/Nav system. Might have to add the chrome fins now, too. This forum has cost me a lot of money in options/add-ons!

I got the MB branded weathertech. They are ordering third seat. They do snap in if you take out the carpet liners.

They talked me out of lift gate handle. It apparently attaches onto license plate. The door opens and closes, so they convinced me that I didn't need it. Plus, it would mess with my carbon fiber frame.

Here is my Canvas Back third row/cargo area solution. Because we do not have a large dog to drive around, this was mainly for protection from cargo (stroller). I also have the 3rd row armrest as well as behind the 2nd row protection pieces. I may install those later if I see that it is needed.

Overall, installation was pretty easy. It comes with double sided Velcro attached. One side is sewn into the Canvas Back material and the other side has sticky tape that you put it on the carpet. The sticky tape is very very strong. I do not believe it will move at all.

yes, it is a hood badge, plus some rubber glue or liquid nails or wherever you want to use... it is the new 3D hitch plug

 

What I did is I drill two holes, (I mark the holes with the same badge pins), I put some glue, insert badge pins into the holes.... done

for those that have liners in the rear cargo, are you using velcro? I've read that the adhesive parts tend to melt in the summer heat and mess up the underlying carpeting. I have the cargo liner protector but haven't used the velcro because of that. anyone experience this and/or find a solution?

 

Kindof funny - AMG Sport pedals for W166/X166 are $77 + tax at your dealer... they probably will have to order in which is zero freight for you...keep the beat !

good tip but $77 plus taxes is about $84 + double trip to dealer cost more than $6.00 + your time, online price is about $90 shipping included, not a bad deal

 

My husband and I ordered a metallic black GL450 that is hopefully en-route right now. I'm thinking about getting the chrome door handle inserts. Will the handle itself come black or chrome? Trying to visualize how the chrome piece will look behind it and if I would like it. Is it important for scratch protection? Also, is there adhesive on the parts so you can apply it yourself or would I need the dealer to do it? And same thing for the chrome fins? All this waiting is costing me a lot of $$ in options and accessories. lol Oh well, go big or go home, right?
