In-Vehicle Hotspot?
I was placing the order for our 2014 GL350 and really wanted this option. Dealer told me that it was a post-delivery option done at the dealership.
Two things - one, is this true? And two, has anyone installed this and how well does it work? I was thinking this would be both a better and less expensive option than the rear seat entertainment system.

I'm pretty sure that isn't correct. The hotspot is a $500 option on the '14 GL. Also, I was told by my salesperson that it is very slow.

It is an option, but why not just get a LTE mobile hotspot from Verizon etc? Inconvenience of plugging it in to charge but can take it to hotels etc?

Also, pooling data use in one larger account is more effective for us than several smaller accounts. Our family phones and tablets are in one large data pool. Occasionally, when i need an emergency connection for my laptop (vs. tablet), I tether with my iPhone and it's worked fine. But the mobile hub would be an alternative for non-cellular devices.

That was my Plan B (our road trips usually consist of going to the in-law's residence or lake house, so hotels aren't much of a consideration as much as the drive is), but Plan B is now starting to suspiciously sound like Plan A.

It is an add on box for $500 .... Service is free for the first 6 months then you get the monthly charge... It will be slow too.

I've only recently begun to tether to my Verizon 4g phone. It is absolutely amazing how fast it is!!! I feel stupid for not having used it in the past. You do have to be careful about how much data you use, but they have apps that let you monitor it very closely.
