19 inch - Pirelli all season tire now available?

Hi all. Bringing this topic up again as it looks like there is now an alternative - looking for input from those that maybe have experience in the larger tire size.

My 2013 GL450 came with the 19 inch wheels and the dreaded / horrible (for snow) Contis. There was initially no real alternatives for an "all season" M+S tire in the 275/55R19 size.

I don't need dedicated snow tires as I'm in Bay Area and just need something to get me up to the Sierras and back.

Anyway, thought I'd check tire rack again and see they now have Pirelli Scorpion Zero in the correct 19 inch size for the all season.

Does anyone have experience with these with respect to their performance in snow - I thought they may have been MB OEM on the 21 or 20 inch wheels?

I have these 19" snows and I like them. They improve control and ability to climb snow covered hills.

Hi Steve - these are the all season version (I put a link above now) - do you have these or the dedicated snow version? Thx.

Whoops. Need to read more slowly. No, I have the dedicated snows. Mine have the little snow flake and mountain symbols. Glad I do as it is going to snow quite a bit tonight. Sorry about that.

Haha - np - I should have linked the tire. We've been wishing for snow here - nothing for about 3 weeks!

I just picked up a CPO GL550 with the Pirelli All Seasons on there in 21" size. Just under 14,000 miles on them and we just had 10" of snow. They did just fine under acceleration - braking/turning less so but about what I expected. Raising the suspension sure makes it easy to clean out the fenderwells before putting it back in the garage!

Dalema - I have found all of this very helpful. I saw your post on the X164 and found some interesting info. Thanks for asking the question as I have been wondering myself. I had BF Goodrich All Terrains on my Suburban and they were a good tire. I wish that they made them for the 19"...

Thx - still not sure what to do, but thinking I may swap out these contis even though they are young and go with the Pirellis.

Giving this one a bump in case there is more experience out there now. Will be changing out of the existing Contis in the next couple of weeks. Still undecided.

What did you end up getting? I need new 19" tires and prefer all seasons.

Oh man - that's bad luck!

Do let us know your impressions. Any chance you could find any snow to go drive in - haha.

After a little research I'm thinking of going with the Nitto Motivo (275/55R19) which is the OEM size, or dropping down to 255/55R19 for the Nokian WRG3.

Anyone had experience with either (particularly in the snow)?

Also, does anyone know how to locate the Nokians - seems like a hard tire to find.

One week in and no problems (on dry pavement). I know some people complain about the noise of the Pirellis, but I don't notice it at all.

That's good news - wil be interested to see how they go over time.

I think I'm going to go with the Nitto Motivos in 275/55R19.

I wanted to do the Nokians but at the end of the day the drop to 255/55 concerned me too much.

So - after the Nittos appeared to be out of stock I continued my search.

I have now bit the bullet on a set of Toyo Versado CUV in the 275/55R19. I found a few positive reviews on them and they seem to have reported decent snow performance for an all season. They are also reported to be fairly quiet. We will see how they go!

If I had been in the market for dedicated snow tires - I definitely would have gone with the Nokian Hakka R2s.

If the size match was a little bit better (and load rating) - I wish I could have gone with the Nokian WRG3 all seasons. They seem to be exactly what I was looking for but not quite the right size.

P.S. - And at $860 shipped from Tread Depot I was happy with the price point of the Toyos.

How did these tires end up doing in the snow?

Great thread. Just drove back from Brian Head UT to S. Cal last weekend in a storm. Coming down a fairly steep grade on a slippery road was not pleasant with the Contis. Also, once on the interstate at much higher speeds they did not inspire a ton of confidence either.

Going up a decent grade in front of the condo over a dirt road in about 6 inches of snow was actually just fine.

Anyhow, nothing really to add here other than I agree that the Contris don't seem great in snowy conditions. But, I would also like to add a question for any recommendations on snow chains? Even with better tires for snow I think my cardiologist would have preferred I had chains on due to very slippery conditions, steep grade, curves and very limited guardrail protection in some areas. Any input on good chains deeply appreciated.
