Paint Protection and Rail Dust
It looks like MB has finally learned that the so called paint protection will not do anything against rail dust, I went in for my service "A" today and they were hesitant on cleaning up the rail dust, apparently it no longer goes through service for the job.

The "paint protection" crap they put on and charge an arm and a leg for is a ripoff. It's pretty much a wax, or at least it doesn't do anything more than what a decent wax does, and what do they charge? $4, 5, 600. It's insane. And no matter how good a wax you put on, it can't stop stuff from falling onto the paint. That said, just use clay. Done. Rail dust, tree sap, bird poop residue and all manner of contaminants gone. Then re-wax the car.

Metallic particles/dust from rail transport from factory to Northern/Western regions.
Actually - the nanclearcoat technology is "hard" but think of it as micro-sharkskin/micro-turtle as a series of micro platelets.
For best DIY care - best to use a sealant first that fills the crevices and provides better boding layer for carnuba wax on top.
For DIY - a very affordable German sealant developed for this type of clearcoat - Glanzwax Blue Top - wipe-on/wipe-haze off product - small section at a time, let haze sit for 20-30 minutes for best bonding - good for wheels too - affordable just over $20 on Amazon - out of stock at $17 for Prime members at the moment:

They reapplied the paint protection which I am sure will last all of 3 months, the 600 bucks I paid a year ago has already paid for itself and than some.

There are dealers out there that don't "understand" that the DuPont sealant must be applied when the MB is clean and absolutely dry - if the paint is wet or damp, the sealant will not adhere correctly.

I dont think it matters how they apply it, there is nothing on this planet in terms of rub on paint protection that will last for 5 years like they advertise, I knew this going in and it is now the third time that the rail dust has been removed from the paint. I give it 3 months maximum and than the rail dust will be all over the vehicle again!
