^^^^ - why I'm disappointed in the decision by MB to drop a V6 in the newer 450!

How is the install performed - accessed by drilling the ECU? And is it lifetime reversible?

Thx

We do have to get into the ECU and the tune can be taken out if you would like it removed.

I'd guess That'd be the AMG section. I've seen the specs on it though. It looks fantastic. Congrats on yours.

Mike, you mention that the M278 engine obtains higher numbers than rated from the factory prior to your tune. Do you mind sharing what those are?

Also, do you provide custom tunes for customers that don't want all the power of your standard tune?

Thanks.

Also, is Mercedes using different intake and exhaust setups to generate more horsepower/torque on different models using the M278 or are they just using the ecu?

You list an upgraded tune for the ML550 at 530 hp & 606 torque. Is this available for the GL?

We could do custom tunes but would need the truck in house so we can build the tune on the dyno.

That tune is not available for the GL. It is for the ML only.

So the GL450 and GL550 make the same power after the tune?

hp and tq gains

Ju just should have gottenst curious as to why the ml 550 is allowed that hp and tq gains; and not the gl550; I mean I understand the ml 550 has a lil less hp and tq 402 hp stock and 443 tq stock compared to the gl550 with 429 hp stock and 516 tq stock with ecu gain of 530 606 for ml 550 and being a 128 hp to 163 tq difference; ; then the gl550 should get more than stated...
Sorry don't mind me; I'm just upset about my gl550 getting 10.4 mpg and had suv for 2 months now and still haven't punched the gas yet aaaaaand driving mostly highway; that 13 to 16 ratio is way off... lol if I knew it was gonna be that bad I would of got a gl63...

We get combined 13MPG+ in our GL450 that we've only had a few months, and we got close to 19MPG on the highway recently for 4th of July trip.

my average over almost 10,000 miles and 14 months is in the high 15's, with mostly short trips around town (kid hauler).

we took a 300 mile trip from san diego to central california up highway 101 and averaged 20.8 mpg.

The reason you can tune a lighter vehicle (ML) a little more aggressive than a heavier one (GL) is because of the added load because of the weight causing preignition.

Here is a link for a tune of the 166 GL350 Bluetec: http://www.racechip-usa.com

These guys make a chip for the GL350 and it boosts the HP and Torque about 28%. It is less expensive than a typical Renntech tuner kit, but should deliver similar or better results than Renntech.

They also offer a "Pedal Box" that deals with the known problem of the lag in execration off the line of the stock GL350.
