@dodopig those are the wrong instructions. OP is asking about the illuminated sills. The instructions you posted is about the interior ambient lights.
You need Surround Lighting to be enabled if you want illuminated sills. It is not the sill itself that is illuminated (the piece you actually step on) but close to above the sill / bottom of door.

If you mean the "mercedes benz" illuminated interior door sills, then there are no settings to turn them on and off. They should turn on and off together with interior lights when opening/closing the door.
So if your interior lights come on when you open the door but the door sills do not - then something is wrong.

If the interior lights are "deactivated" by the switch in the roof cluster - that will also deactivate the Illuminated Front Door Sills - note 2nd row door sills are not Illuminated - just 1st row.
