Help - close to buying my first '14 or '15 GL450
The '14 has plenty of bells and whistles (though not fully loaded). I has the Premium 1 package and a few other add-ons. It has 49K on the odometer for $36K. They are also going to throw in an extended warranty. There a few interior cosmetic issues but they are willing to fix them.
The '15 has almost all bells and whistles - including the unneeded DVD entertainment system. I figure it if has that package, it probably has most options. It has brand new tires (2 miles on them) with 42.5K on the odometer for $42K.
Both are the white with tan interior my wife wants.
The question is, is the 2015 worth an extra $8000 over the 2014? I know I will get better gas mileage on the 15, but are there other '15 benefits?

You're two choices have reasonable mileage - and Mercedes new car warranty expires 4yrs/50K miles - whichever comes 1st.
There is a BIG difference between no-warranty and warranty - and a even BIGGER difference between aftermarket-warranty and Mercedes Certrified Warranty
Since you did not share warranty details - and/or CarFax and/or Mercedes Vehicle Records (VMI) - then you are asking "which of the two looks/fees good" and "I should take the cheaper one - right ?".
Yes - the V8 and V6 model will drive/feel differently between the two - different engines - the 2015 V6 has same 0-60mph (assuming yuou are a US donkey) and 150%-20% + better fuel economy.
It all depends what you value most to make your decision.. if either or both are not CPO - my opinion at 42K/49K miles - walk away.

Make sure to check the options and either vehicle have
1. Park Assist (to get the surround view)
2. lightning package (for HID/bi-xenon)
3. appearance package (at least you have the chrome bits and 20" rims)
4. Lane tracking (passive or active -- drive assist)
Don't assume. These things can't be added after the fact.
Post links to both vehicles so we can have a better picture.

1) Get vehicle VIN and carfax.
2) Send to one of the recommended MB warranty sellers on this site to confirm they can sell you warranty for the vehicle as MB has some exclusion criteria in place. For example, if its one of the off-lease independent dealers selling the vehicle, MB will most likely not offer a warranty or in an extreme case, retract warranty after selling it.
3) If you get positive confirmation, negotiate lowest possible price for vehicle ONLY.
4) Buy vehicle, then reach out to warranty vendor again to actually purchase the warranty. At your miles, I also recommend the Pre paid maintenance package which covers the expensive B+ service and save a few hundred dollars over time as well.
Hope that helps.
Good luck. It's a lot of truck for the money. You'll love it.
