Air Intake Pipe Bodge Up - Check This Out

Hi all

I dont tend to spend much time under the hood but when i did an oil too up last week i happened to notice this rather shocking bodge up job on the air intake pipe on the right side of the engine. I genuinely didnt do this and I bought it from Mercedes franchise dealer who incidentally changed the air filters pre sale.

Whats worse is that its been in the shop for coolant pipe replacement, a main service and other bits n pieces, why Mercedes feel its not worth a mention at any time is most annoying, unless of ourse they did it?

Anyway, anyone know the part number, I read that they do break up, so what about alternatives?

GL63 AMG by the way.

Thanks

Carl

Thanks for the reply, Id seen similar posts for other Benz models where plastic retrofit parts were used to improve quality.

I notice post 9 of that thread mentions an oil leak, Ive got a bit of oily residue around the front belt pulley that was up th side of the aluminium intake pipe on the same side as this torn air pipe, cant easily access under the pulley area but pulled the front of the engine cover up and think the belt is soiled with oil?

I wiped it away from the intake to let me keep an eye on it until i can get it checked, you can just make out a bit of left over residue, it was baked on.

Not mentioned the year and it’s a m127 vs m278 so not sure the valve guides need to be addressed for that but research it just to check. Had them covered on our 550.

Sorry can you explain further?

Mines a 2013 GL63 with M157 engine, do you think possible valve guide problem?

I thought the belt looks soiled, seems like its got oil spots on it but soaked in rather than on the surface.

Hi can I ask a question about the flexible intake pipe kit you bought, the ends on the stock system are oval, do the round ended couplers still fit tightly around the oval ends?

Other kits have flanged ends rather than a coupler but again its round ends to fit the oval mouth piece.

Dealer completely uninterested, just quoted me for a replacement rather than inducate they will cover it on my warranty so think the aftermarket kit is a good option?

Thanks
