The correct clip is A0008230245. My original was black and the new one was orange.

The above picture shows how this clip is an extra lock to hold the plug into the Multi-Function Switch that we are replacing.

The only part of this project that wasn't completely clear to me when I started was where the holes were to access the spring clips that keep the airbag in place. The pictures below show the place that needs to be punched out on both sides of the back of the steering wheel and my T-20 torx screwdriver in the hole. Thanks to the video posted above for the recommendation to use the T-20. It is the perfect size to make this foolproof. Thanks to everyone (especially mekantor) who have contributed to this thread. It made this confusing problem a very straightforward solution!

Hi, for that VIN it was A166 900 61 06 9051, later replaced by A166 900 02 08 9051

Mekantor, can you help identify the part number for my VIN -
4JGDF6EEXHA765659

Local shop told me 166-900-95-07-9051, but I can't find a reference to that anywhere. I'm guessing there's a newer part to cross reference.

Thanks so much!

That number matches, but also 166-900-04-08-9051 comes up. They both seem right, neither is a replacement for the other.
But, the one you gave doesn't come up in any online catalogs. This other one does show results:
https://www.benzpartshq.com/oem-part...16690004089051

9051 is the color code for Black.

Thank you very much! I think the parts gal at my local dealer was just having a bad morning. Basically refused to give me any info and told me that i couldn't get the unit. I bet she knew there was an another one that could be purchased easily :-)

You sir, are doing a great service. I hope life pays it forward to you!

I'm here late in the game, but thought I would ask anyway. I have the same "blind side assist inoperative" and "turn signals quit working" issue in my 2013 ML-350 that others have outlined in messages above.. I must assume that the turn signal module should be replaced. I have watched the video above (by gladerider) and will watch it a couple of more times before attempting this. I just bought the iCarsoft MBII (Enhance Version) OBD2 Scanner for Mercedes Benz and confirm the codes I suspect. Does anyone know if there any other videos available that cover the replacment of this darned turn signal module? Thanks very much for your advice.

So I'm about to replace mine in 2 weeks, awaiting delivery of the replacement. It started with getting the blind spot inoperative message 1 time per week to 2 times per week and progressively getting worse to now almost on a daily basis and turn signals stop working until I restart the vehicle. Meant to get this done prior to winter but a relocation and move delayed me replacing it sooner.

I found this video on YouTube which gives a good run through on the replacement process.:

I will report back once I've replaced mine to confirm if the issue is resolved.

Hihi, and thanks for the thread! My 2013 GLK250 and I have recently joined the intermittent turn signal outage club, returning home from a long trip. I have a part number from the dealership, for Kostal, who they state are one of two manufacturers and they'd have to do a teardown in order to tell me which mfg. They did give me a part number for Kostal: 212 900 1420 -- the color code would be for brown, which they did not give me.

@mekantor , if you are still offering to read and interpret VINs for this part, mine is coming to you via DM.

My questions:
1. Would there be a major difference between the parts made by each manufacturer, or are they interchangeable? I can find a Kostal part for $considerably-less-than-the-dealership's-quote, but don't know whether it would be wise to order the part without that teardown.

2. If going ahead and ordering is A-OK, does anyone know the color code for brown?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you again, @mekantor and all assembled! This thread definitely has the information I and my live-in-mechanic need to get the job done -- down to needing to poke a hole through that indentation on the steering wheel (Thanks for that last bit of mystery solved, @Yeffsy)

@mekantor and assembled company, one last (hopefully!) question: We've pulled the wheel & controls off of the steering column. There's a sticker with a QR code on it, with all of the numbers including the first part number listed in EPC. Do we need to break the control down further to see the manufacturer, or does the part number with its note "KOSTAL", give us the manufacturer information we need, already?

I think you have everything needed to confirm the part.

The W166 platform is certainly not immune to this issue.
I have a 2013 ML350 Bluetec, black interior, heated steering wheel, VIN 4JGDA2EBXDA227177 that is exhibiting the same issues as all these GL's: intermittent blinker failure, off/on ignition cycle clears it temporarily, blind spot sensor issues in tandem, the works.
I have installed fresh blind spot sensors both left and right in the rear, and really thought for several weeks I had it conquered - until it was clear that I hadn't. I connected my Launch X431V+ computer and according to my conversation with the steering column module, the part number is 1669017600. According to the EPC (and my woefully limited ability to navigate it) the correct part number is 1669000208. Neither of these part numbers seem to yield anything at the likes of MBParts or FCPEuro.
@mekantor, I throw myself to your mercy. Can you point me to both a part number and a source? Replacing the assembly appears easy; getting the correct part for my specific VIN... Doesn't.

@rapidoxidation You got the correct part at the end, but it doesn't include the 9051 color code.
Here is what I see in EPC for your VIN:
starts at A16690061069051
replaced by A16690002089051
then also replaced by A1669000208649051

I don't know what that extra 64 is in there, but that's the part.

Thanks for the confirmation! I'm on a road trip right now so haven't ordered the part yet...
but...
During the ride home today I was able to do some more observation. The blinkers lasted about 200 miles then started acting up. Again, resettable with a restart, only to fail a few or a few dozen miles later. This time, I had my computer plugged in...

clearing the code was a no go- on the move, it wouldn't clear and the one time it did, the blinkers still wouldn't work. Going into the steering column module, the computer was able to recognize the switch action, confirming both left and right activations. Going into the SAM, I could activate the turn signal lamps on all four corners individually.
Seems to me that the switch is not talking to the SAM; is this in line with a failing steering column control module, the part number listed above?
I'm planning on tearing apart the column this weekend to confirm connections inside but am listening if someone has another idea. It almost seems like heat soak is causing a comm path to fail.

Popped the 10 amp fuse over the auxiliary battery, popped the (-) terminal off the main battery, poked into the steering wheel to release the airbag, unplugged the airbag, unplugged the steering wheel, took the center bolt out of the steering wheel with a 10mm allen wrench, removed the wheel, popped the extension trim off the back of the switch module, pulled the switch module, removed the lock tab (broke the stupid little legs off it of course), removed the wiring harness. Ridiculously easy to remove the module assembly. Didn't see anything obviously wrong and didn't feel like breaking the assembly open without having the replacement module in hand (and a stupid little lock tab too, for an extra few bucks) so now I'm fix'n to order up the parts that will hopefully fix the issue.

I really hate throwing parts at a problem that I don't fully understand. I get that a new module will likely fix the turn signal intermittent failure, but I want to know WHY it'll fix it. What is actually failing to cause the problem? If anyone knows, I'm all ears. Might tear down the old module once I get the new one installed to see what I can see.

Looking closer at the electronic ignition switch... The turn signal request rides the bus through the ignition switch to get to the SAM where it is distributed to the rest of the car. I've had a couple of recent messages on the display that tell me the key is not present (after I've used keyless go to start the car) and a couple of times where pushing the start button yields the IC lighting up and gauge needles sweeping as they should but the starter doesn't engage. I'm starting to think there may be some cold solder joints in the EIS that are beginning to have issues.
Many thanks to a forum member for pointing me to GF82.10-P-3008GR (Turn Signal Indicator Actuation, Function) and PE82.10-P-2055NAA (Electrical Function Schematic, Turn Signal Light Actuation).

Gave in and bought the steering column control module without fully understanding why, but still believe it to be a CAN network issue. Stuffed the new part in today (ridiculously easy) and all is seemingly cured: There were a couple of odd headlight communication codes that are gone along with a EIS comm issue. A short drive followed by a thorough scan yielded no codes or errors. Got to follow up with a long drive (something more than a few hours) to become convinced things are 100%.

Hi Mekantor - if you are still kind enough to provide the part #, I am having the same issue. 2013 ML350 vin 4JGDA5HB5DA102486. Is there a reason this wouldn't be a recall? Just too old?

Thank you!

It should be a recall, inability to signal a lane change is a big deal IMO. I think it requires a significant number of complaints at nhtsa.gov, I thought I had filed a complaint there but its been so long I can't recall.
On the E55, they extended the fueltank recall to 15y, and recently had a sunroof recall, so age is not a strict factor.

For your VIN the latest part is A166 900 02 08 64 8N85, good luck!

Thank you. I'm going to forward this thread to the nhtsa. I had no idea so many people were/are having this issue.

Thanks again for your service.
