Parking brake warning light

The parking brake warning light came on yesterday when parking up. When I try to release it a red warning flashes up to go to owners manual (which I don’t have). Car seems to drive okay, my worry was that it would be stuck on and make undriveable.

any suggestions as to what the problem is?

Thanks

When the car drives okay, is the parking brake light and message illuminated?

Has any work been done on the brakes in the past few months?

Check brake fluid level.

Check and see if you are in service mode for the rear brakes. That disengages the parking brake and illuminates the light. That way you can retract the rear caliper while changing pads You can access it in the service menu.

Fluid levels are fine, brakes work fine. I am erring towards the auxiliary battery being the issue.

2019 GLS 450; Parking Brake Warning (orange light) came on and Parking Brake See Operator's Manual (Red) also came on; car is not drivable, parking brake is engaged. Fluid levels are good, no issues with brakes, or other warnings. Does anyone know a way to reset the parking brake to get it to release?

In the service menu, you can unlock the brake manually, but I haven't tried whether it wouldn't just reset once you move the car. Needed this to change rear brakes. Instructions in any decent YouTube video on changing rear brake pads.

AK, I tried, but it didn't work. It's almost like the emergency brake is applied, but will not disconnect. I'm going to work on it this weekend, put it on the lift and remove the rear tires and inspect the rear brakes, maybe change them while I'm at it, even though they look like they have just a little under half pad left on the outside pad on each tire. I'll post pics of what I find here.

Thanks for the suggestion,
dfs

AK and Others; finally narrowed down the issue;

The rear driver-side (left) parking brake actuator was bad. I got a friend to use his scan tool to check the amps the left and right actuators used. We could see the left actuator not using any amps when moving it in and out. We could also hear the right one moving, but not the left. Ordered one on Amazon ($36.37 - not OEM Mercedes), got it the next morning, installed and everything works.

My car would not move without some force as the brake pad was locked in the hold position. Hope this helps anyone out there having this same issue.

I'm glad you worked it out. Reasonably-priced, too. Are you sure it's a Mercedes? Not used to easy and affordable fixes...

AKS, believe me, I thought there was no way this would be that easy. I've been driving around since I posted that I was able to repair it with no issues. I'm still in kind of sticker shock that it was that easy and inexpensive to repair. Follow me for more easy and inexpensive fixes... lol.

Thanks for you reply and input; greatly appreciated.

Pretty much everyone will fail around 100k miles or less. Should be part of the preventative maintenance program.
