GL63 M157 about to take a sh*t?
This got me worried, so I filtered all of the used oil through a screen and there was no other magnetic fragments of this size to be found.
I then decided to cut open my oil filter element and inspect it. on the outside of the filter was maybe ten 0.5mm shiny metal pieces of glitter. Easily visible to the eye and recordable on camera.
The large chunk of metal is obviously a big worry, however I can only 80% confirm it was from the engine. I removed the plug and placed it on cardboard that I was laying on. Ther eis a very small chance it might have picked up something from there (but unlikely). The glitter fragments in the oil filter are undeniable though.
Engine runs great, no codes, no odd noises. I do sometimes think i smell burning oil though, but never have any tailpipe smoke (even with the decat). Plugs have about 25k on them.
Definitive diagnosis for bore scoring is borescope. I think you can rent them at Autozone or equivalent. Early scoring may not present slap, smoke or oil consumption.
They have been on the car since I purchased it 6+ years ago. I've been cleaning them at every service interval, but noticed that at the most recent interval the filter material has started to degrade so I am replacing them with OEM.
I'm going to have a 'virtual' compression test conducted tomorrow and hopefully this will give me an idea of the engine health.
I'm actually really gutted as the GL63 is my fave car (and I have a few!), but after reading lots of cylinder scoring horror stories, I dont think I could ever have another one.

So I pulled the plug on cyl5 (the troublesome one) and borescoped it. There is some scoring, although not awful, and I performed a compression test on this cylinder alone. It held 155psi.
At some point I'll get around to doing the rest, but for the moment at least I'm going to continue to drive it like I stole it.
