New here and my first Mercedes 2014 gl450.. low beam are sadly dim.. help

Hi there I’m new to this forum . My first night drive I kept thinking I hadn’t tuned in the headlight …there on just poor halogens . I’m blown away at the throw and viability with the low beams ( this is my first Mercedes ) I’ve been searching but with so many different Answers and models I was hoping someone might be able to provide a link or insight .

Im assuming there simpler upgrade the h7 bulb . Im doubtful its comparable to xenon or hid lighting considering my last experiment with upgrading halogens in other cars ive owned in past
2) is it safe and possible to retrofit xenon or hid lights w/ out error codes ?

3) does the projector lense need replacement to be effective with either xenon or hid vs the one in there for the halogen bulb

3) does anyone have a comparison of hid vs xenon and thoughts options on cast and brightness of light on road.

Thank you in Advanced for any help I’m blown away a car of this value ( original value ) has such poor headlight visibility. My first 2001 bmw had xenon’s . Chester’s cars come stock .. either way love the car so far aside from night drives

So much of what you are asking has been discussed ad nauseum. Please use the search function.

Both are 166 models so, yes, the advice works for your headlights.

Sorry you got one with the factory halogens. I would say it was worthwhile to trade it in for another model with the factory HID's. I know it may be a pain but the factory HID's that move the light with the steering wheel are really great. Stock halogens should have never been put in an MB. They are disgracefully bad.

That would be nice if there was a car available in price range to just trade it in. As we just purchased it 8 days ago. And has everything else we wanted including color combo features etc , there isn’t anything market within price rage.

Hoping and looking to diy hid/ xenon bulbs in there , but it sounds like the projector lens also needs to be swapped out . Still trying to gather info on how to make this is all done correctly . I wish there was a video of this process.
So if I attempt and succeed I will make one to help others with similar lighting issue

You do not need to change anything and can adapt an H7 HID retrofit kit. This is covered in detail if you read what has already been posted.

I’m just trying to decide on what bulbs to get
1) GTR Lighting Ultra Series H7
2) Morimoto H7

From what I understand these are the only ones that will fit and using Hylux utilizing 2A88 Canbus ballast

Osram and Philips are two I’ve been looking at. Philips being the I’m winner however vendor says they don’t have Bulbs that will fit

so out of Morimoto and gtr any opinions on brightness, throw , visibility ? Thinking 5k vs 6 k for visibility . Even though I like look of 6k aesthetically

any help if there are other ballast and bulbs other than the above you’d recommend I love to hear about it.
