Congrats on your order as well! I presume you have a December allocation for January

not sure of the exact to build date yet, my sales rep said it was too far in advance to tell , but it could be November December or January

The most recent estimated build date was 7/7 which was still in the system as a '13MY build but, just this week, a VIN was assigned and is in production. I understand the VIN is assigned 1-2 days in to the 5 day build timeline.

I've added a few goodies (B&O, Night Assist and Auburn Brown which most all weren't added to earlier orders) which my dealer thought kept my order back from much earlier build dates or I would have had her a number of months ago along with some factory allocations.

Oh well....

I remember some earlier posts about MY2013 allocations and recall they went through the first week of July. I had thought that was the annual plant shut down week at Vance. Maybe no shut down to meet demand . . .

In any event, we need plenty of photos when your new GL arrives!

I love, love the Auburn Brown but can't see it lasting with my kids atm. I hope the B&O lives up to the name. We paid extra for that too and the night assist. I hate driving at night these days and hope it helps. I do see a difference between our Dodge truck and the GL550 at night even without night assist.

Only difference is a button to the right of the lights dial to the left of your steering wheel. I haven't used mine in months.

I Thought The Night View Display Would Pop Up In The Instrument Cluster Like The S Class, where does it pop up?

How do you capitalize every word?

Agree with your point, though! Heads up display would seem best for this sort of thing.

As has been stated in other threads, there is nothing useful about night assist. You have to take your eyes off the road and onto the navigation screen to use it, and then the camera has a slight magnification to it, so things appear closer than they are. If you took a curve driving with the night assist you would turn into the curve too early and cut the corner too close.

I Installed A Flir Thermal Imager On My GL 550, And Find it Is Distracting to Constantly Look Down At The Nav Screen Because It Is So Small.

Are you sure you want the B&O? Seems like a bad trade to not have a spare tire.

I haven't needed a spare tire in over 25 years, if even then. AAA comes out and fixes everything. Or hauls it in. Tires are pretty awesome these days.

I have the B&O as well. Have you thought of adding rear sunshades and split view?

Haven't. Can you tell me what the idea of the sunshades is? And is there a link somewhere that shows the split-view? Not sure if I want that or not. Thanks!

Rear sunshades are a relatively inexpensive option to protect rear passengers from sun. They are not powered as they are in the S-class but nonetheless are worth it. If you look through posts several members have posted pics.

Split view - See cookstars post (video) - example on a S Class. I think it's good - worth to have. Not sure how many times I will use it but time will tell.

JAQ1:

That's a nice build. I think you have already seen the posts about the questionable value of the Night View Assist. And Sam's suggestion about the Rear Sun Shades is a good one.

I have never seen mention of the Rear Side Airbags as an option before on the GL??? I'm sure you ordered them but has anyone else heard of that as an option? I ordered it on my E63 but wasn't aware of them here.

Yes, think we don't really need the sunshades. Never get many complaints about sun coming in from there and it's rare times we have anyone back there these days. 3 years til no more SUVs!

Ditto with Split View. The passengers are always looking at their iPhones/pads anyway so no need to further confuse things. That's also why we aren't adding rear seat entertainment.

And yes, I think Night View Assist is probably a waste, but hubby wants that so getting it anyway. I can load up on 'I told you so" that way.

And I am concerned that the designo will not be quilted? I really like the quilted look and feel but it's hard to find out what exactly will come in the '14 GL.

SO: I have the rear side airbags as well. The only reason I know about them is that my SA sent me a screen shot of the order screen less than a month ago. See if your order is still open and hopefully you can add them.
