I don't think this is worth it's own thread, but my new pinnacle 90, britax's top of the line car seat has hope with the easy entry headrest issue. I have a bunch of different Britax chairs and that one clears the headrest the best. With the thickness of a folded blanket or towels, it should clear 100% with no problem.

I picked up my GL63 on Friday. Very impressed with the build quality and electronics. (I am coming out of a Lexus LX570). I find the acceleration to not be as exciting as I would have expected but to be fair I am not pushing it at this point. I also find the lane assist system to be awkward as the car tries to pull you back into the lane. The seats are very comfortable and the interior is great. The new heated and cooled cup holders are neat but not sure how effective they are. I think the breaks are great. I was driving on dark roads last night and I love how the high beams automatically dim when there is an oncoming car or even when you come up behind another car. The voice automation even worked around half the time. All in all very happy.

As for the acceleration once you get it broken in and put it is sport mode everything changes. That said I am taking mine in on Tuesday for the RennTech 633hp upgrade.

Thanks so much everyone. When do you think it is broken in to use sport mode etc?

Tomshop:

Also - congrats on finally getting your GL63!!! You have been one of us that have waited a long time for your GL63. We need some photos when you get the chance.

I am waiting on using anything but comfort on the transmission until around 1,000 miles. I am expecting a much different experience when I do. Same for the E63, comfort setting is a little mushy (plus starts in 2nd gear) but when you set it to Sport or Sport Plus everything changes dramatically. Of course, there are several on this Forum (for other AMG models) that take the "hard" break in approach - get the engine used to full acceleration early.

Kind regards,

Charlie

I have not driven it in s or m and the suspension is set to normal. Other cars like the gtr ask to break in suspension by driving in a mode that allows for more play of the suspension and that's my logic for that.

Compare to x164 it seems less roomy but I think it's the more aggressive seat bolsters.

I also noticed two concerns for other owners to discuss:
The camera system looks aweful at night. You can hardly see anything!!! There may be something wrong with mine
The other is a noise I hear from the right rear. Sounds like plates scraping against each other but only under load. I'm hoping the diff is not the cause of this. I can hear it when I lightly press brake with left foot under load, so I ruled out pads scrubbing. Any thoughts?
CyberNorth:

Thanks for your impressions. One note, I am also finding the back-up camera a little lacking at night. Needs a brighter back-up light.

Thanks. Couple of questions.

Can you shut the ECO mode off permanently?
Is there any way to change out the iPhone cable so it works with iPhone5? I know you can buy an Apple adaptor but it is awkward to use (too short).
Can you permanently shut off voice for navigation? Thanks!

There is "Eco" button in the middle of dash, silver row of buttons. Touch it off.
The iPhone cable issue is frankly lame and disappointing. the adaptor that doesn't have a cable may be ok, but some have tested the adaptors on different platforms and noted different performance, eg, the cable tyme charges v non cable type doesn't, etc.
You can turn volume all the way down or hit mute when it's talking. There may be a permanent way, but I can't be sure.

The problem with ECO button is it resets every time you restart the car.

Why do you want to turn it off anyway. I got used to it already and it doesn't bug me anymore. Although now that its hot, it turns back on at a long light to sustain the ac.

Fair enough. I'm reading the manual today. I will post if I learn anything useful.

For w204, there is a thread about secrets, pearls from experience or hidden in the manual, etc. has anyone come across anything similar for x166?

Residualizing Prepaid Maintenance of AMG lease

Picked up 2014 GL63 in Northern California Friday night and drove home to Seattle area yesterday. 12 1/2 hours. A friend found this one in a show room last Friday and called me while I was shopping with wife at Trader Joes. I called the dealer and snapped it up. Was getting very impatient not getting a build number after 8 months of waiting. This is my 65th birthday present to myself and I am thrilled.

Two hundred more miles to 1,000!

The drive was fun.
Took the road north of Santa Rosa to Clearlake and then over to Williams and up I-5. The weather was gorgeous.

I found out this morning, that MB Financial will not residualize prepaid maintenance on AMG. Is that correct?

Congrats! Enjoy in good health!

Nothing quite like an AMG.

We found a friend
I thought I wouldn't be seeing another one for awhile. This is the second one in a week.

Of course I had to go and park side by side.

It's probably me, but would you see a bit fallacy in this grill?

Interior Light On

When I am driving the left interior light behind the 2nd row seat is on.

The switch up by the mirror turns on the rear interior lights.

The left light stays on when the car is running.

Is there another switch I am missing?

Push on the light itself. It's the reading light function. My son always messes with it. It stays on for quite awhile actually.

SplitView

to TOMSHOP:

Splitview has to be enabled from a dealer. In some states splitview is not legal, so dealer doesn't enable it.
