Quote: SO: I have the rear side airbags as well. The only reason I know about them is that my SA sent me a screen shot of the order screen less than a month ago. See if your order is still open and hopefully you can add them.
Sam:

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, it is too late for me to change my order now - which on the other hand is good news given we are getting really close.

The rear side airbags must be for the third row because it appears that second row side airbags are standard. See the MBUSA description below.

"An advanced system of 9 air bags offers 13-way occupant protection. Dual two-stage front air bags, front and 2nd-row side-impact air bags, a driver's knee air bag, and side curtain air bags for all three seating rows are standard"

To be honest I am not entirely sure where those rear side airbags are. I guess we will find out soon. My order is locked as well. The scheduled date of production is 7/28. Iridium Silver it is - in the end.

Sam:

I really like your color choice. I have been admiring a 2013 Iridium Silver GL550 in my neighborhood. As you have probably been doing as well, I have been watching the GL63s that have popped up for sale on cars.com. All black and white except for that one Iridium Silver in NV that sold. Surprisingly, you will have one of the very few in that color . . .

Kind regards

She's built and been waiting to be picked up for the last couple of days. Maybe a surprise today? ....most likely early next week though.

Quote: The most recent estimated build date was 7/7 which was still in the system as a '13MY build but, just this week, a VIN was assigned and is in production. I understand the VIN is assigned 1-2 days in to the 5 day build timeline.

I've added a few goodies (B&O, Night Assist and Auburn Brown which most all weren't added to earlier orders) which my dealer thought kept my order back from much earlier build dates or I would have had her a number of months ago along with some factory allocations.

Oh well....

I haven't been following this forum as closely as I had been (I am the OP). I am curious to know how many people on here have actually received their GL63's. I finally have a PO and mine comes in at end of October. My dealer has shown me I am the first to get one from the dealership. I placed my order the day the order banks were open and have bought 5 ordered and loaded S classes from the dealer over the last few years so was surprised it took so long.

My GL63 scheduled date of production is 7/28... Hopefully have it last week of August or first week of September

Tom - I am very happy that you have a PO after all the run around your dealer gave you. MBUSA allocates all orders so your dealer is now getting their 1st allocation. I just feel they should have been honest with you through the process but I am glad you will getting one in October.

Awhile ago I suggested to start a GL 63 subforum in the AMG section, https://mbworld.org/forums/gl-class-...gl-63-amg.html.
It is ironic that this thread gets the most attention in the GL forum, but no sub yet for the 63

I don't have an exact production date, just the third decade july, but I feel that a lot of people were given the same production date and I'm worried that some may get a revised later date.

I was the first order in at our San Antonio dealership and have been given a 9/15 prod date with first week Oct delivery. I have only bought one other Merc- the '11 GL 550 that this will be replacing.

Many here had an order on a 2013, which was pushed by mbusa to become 2014 my. Were you waiting for a 2013 when you placed your order?

Thanks Sam. I couldn't agree more. I am not sure whether they knew and wanted to keep me thinking I was about to get it or not.

That is my build date as well but was told to not expect it until late October.

Tom

Congrats on FINALLY getting a build date. I don't know what your dealer was thinking/doing but they should at least be flogged for incompetence . . .

As far as I can tell, MB produced all of the MY13 GL63s laid out in early spring, with some like Trimmer2s moving from the first week of July (shut down week) to the last week of June. I don't think any rolled over to MY14 . . . Also as far as I can tell, only one forum member took US delivery of a GL63 (white on white) and I think Adam12 may have gotten his as well but we haven't heard.

Kind regards

Could well be. My guy was just going on 'past experience' but given the delays with '13s it's probably anyone's guess.

I just don't think that dealers feel that it is a "productive" use of their time to keep updating us. It's just business and if they are confident of our orders, they may focus on their day to day sales until the car arrives. My guy pretty much says that to me and I trust that.

Thanks. I agree completely. It is amazing that so few forum members got '13 cars given our loyalty to the brand.

Do you think that mbusa may be more interested in putting some in its showrooms for a few days than to sell them before they make it to display? They know that almost all of us will wait for 2014, so our loyalty may actually be working against us.

As a MB salesperson, it is quite interesting to read this posts. Speculation, imagination, misinformation.....going wild.....well,....sorry about the people that were misinformed & misled.
Soon I will write article about GL-63 (soon as order for my client comes in later this month)

I will try to answer any specific questions when I find them on post.....

Communication is very underestimated. I know that for my $130k, I'm going to keep asking my SA every single thing that comes to mind.

Quote: The combination ObsidianBlack + Black Designo + Piano Black Piano Lacquer is downright knockout...Designo Black leather "feels" downright sexual.. I am not normally a black-on-black guy..but comes across as Italian luxury really.. quilted seats feel almost like carbon-smooth-sexy..

Interior Designo Porcelain has a slightly stiffer feel and wrapped seat corners show a bit more distortion, wood is a choice, but again Piano Lacquer has me entranced.

Designo Auburn is gorgeous, really makes a "leather" statement, best match with match Satin Ash... exterior I would be conflicted, but partial with that combo to Dakota.

Steel Gray metallic a great exterior color, conflicted on interiors.

My personal opinion, and I have personally expereinced all three interior, but my preference may be different than others..
Hi Fab

Catching up finally on the thread from the beginning. Wow. Very long wait most of you have had. Frustrating, I'm sure.

I've ordered my GL63 in Steel Gray with Black/Piano Black, but wavering toward Auburn Brown. When you say the Designo Black feels sexy, are you talking about the quilted version or the AMG version? If quilted, how does the AMG version compare in feel?

Thanks! So hard to get information. I love my SA in SA, TX, but it's not an AMG center and he has a hard time getting answers to my questions.
