Heavy steering feel in '22 GLS63?

I bought a new '22 GLS 63 last year.

When I test drove it, I didn't notice anything unusual about the steering feel, but within weeks after purchasing it, I noticed that the steering feels a bit heavy even in comfort mode, and there's not much difference in the steering feel in comfort vs sport vs sport+.

I haven't had a chance to compare my GLS 63 with another one, since there aren't many around. But I did have a chance to compare it with a GLE 63 yesterday, and I felt that the steering is significantly lighter in the GLE in comfort mode, and the difference in the steering between the four modes in the GLE is more noticeable than with the three modes of the GLS.

My dealer did a diagnostic and they didn't find any fault codes. They also consulted with an MB engineer in Germany, and he suggested updating the power steering software, which they did, but I don't notice a difference in the steering feel.

I have a lot of other sporty cars (Porsches, BMW M cars, and another AMG), and none of my other cars has as heavy a steering feel as the GLS 63. During the long drive, the GLS 63 fatigues my forearms, whereas none of the other cars do.

So my main questions are:

- How do you all perceive the steering weight of your GLS 63? Is it light, normal, heavy? Is there much difference across the three modes?

- Assuming that my steering system is faulty but not generating any fault codes, what could the problem be? My understanding is that the steering system components include a couple of speed sensors, a couple of torque sensors, an actuator motor, and the software.

Since no one chimed in yet, I am going to go ahead and throw a question to see if it helps: Any chance you were able to to test drive another X167 GLS 63 with similar options (especially performance ones) and tires and wheels and preferably same model year and compare that way?

Thanks for your response.

Haven't had a chance to test drive another one, since there aren't many around. I may have a chance this coming week, but I believe it has aftermarket wheels and tires, so may not be apples to apples.

sounds like a bad rack. Find another dealer or push yours a little harder.

Looks like someone chimed in and suggested you to keep pushing your dealership to help out but I am confused though you said you believe it has aftermarket wheels and tires, that means you don't know who put them on or if someone put them on? You did mention you got the vehicle new so I am even more confused knowing that it isn't a used vehicle and there are no previous owner that placed them.

My GLS is stock and bought new. A local dealer has a used GLS with aftermarket wheels/tires. I can compare that used one with mine, but the wheels/tires may affect the steering feel.

But my first question to you guys is how the steering feels in your GLS 63. Light, normal, heavy?

Sorry for understanding you incorrectly. Hopefully someone else can chime in to help then.

If the one with aftermarket wheels is lighter then yours is bad. Aftermarket wheels usually are bigger/wider ... more resistance etc

sounds like you have a bad rack

When you say 'bad rack', which components might be faulty? And is it possible to have a bad rack without throwing codes? The amount of power assist is apparently a function of speed sensors and steering torque sensors.
