The 2021 GLA, with its 4" taller cabin, is now called an SUV by Mercedes Benz. I too prefer the prior Crossover moniker and its lower profile.
Prior to MY2021 the GLA was more like a Porsche Macan compared to an Audi Q4, but now it's a boxy SUV just like all others.
We had planned to order a 2021 for its integrated instrument cluster touchscreen display (vs. prior iPad like attachment), but given the now higher profile will not be doing so.
I do understand MB's demographics decision in this matter and alas we are now outside same.
We just special ordered our 2021 GLA 35 today! Cosmos Black Metallic with Classic Red/Black leather performance seats . Be careful when you start checking those little boxes; options add up fast . Shout out to Mercedes Fredericksburg (VA); great experience. Now the 3 to 5 month wait begins...
Very nice. The GLA35's ~300 Hp is plenty of boost over the GLA250.

I have to agree with you. I think the 1st generation GLA is the closest thing the U.S. will ever get to the A class hatchback which is a shame. I also understand why MB made the change. I hope it works out for them.

Unfortunately car companies use these terms interchangeably. The GLA is a Crossover. No way around it. Mercedes only makes 3 SUV’s the other 3 are crossovers. It was never like a Porsche Macan. Not even close as the GLA is a sub compact and the macan is a compact. They are not even close on price either.
You missed my point. I was referring to the lower/higher side profiles of the Macan and Q5 (the Macan being initially design-based on same) and comparing only that to the pre- and post 2021GLA's. Obviously much differing segments and price points.
And again Benz now refers to the 2021 GLA as an "SUV" in their marketing when they prior called it a Crossover.
