New GLB 250 Owner Thoughts

Took delivery on 7/29, Brand new. Chicago area.

Polar white exterior / MB-Tex with Dinamica (black) interior.
AMG Trim Package
Premium Package
Night Package
Body color roof spoiler
Garage opener
BSA
Panorama sunroof
Heated steering wheel
Sirius
Burmester audio
Door projectors
Heated seats
64 color lighting

Immediate feedback:

Love:
1. Car overall. Drives fantastic. Curb appeal.
2. I know it's foo-foo but the 64 color lighting is fun. This option was worth it.
3. Burmester sounds good.
4. Rear spoiler was worth it - curb appeal.
5. Fully configurable gauges.

Loathe:
1. MBUX interface takes getting used to.
2. USB-C ports inside the armrest / center console do not connect to MBUX, they only charge.
3. Carplay is wonky - see other threads on this.
4. Haven't figured out the science to the hands-free liftgate feature (kicking motion under the rear bumper). Sometimes I get it, others I don't. I think the car has to be unlocked already.

Considering the carplay wonky-ness, I regret not getting the multimedia package so I would have navigation. I did solve the eyesore of the cable sticking up from the port by getting a right-angle cable -

More to come over the weeks / months as I drive it more. Happy to field any questions.

Ordering process?

Did you order this car or was it on the lot? Since you said you took delivery which means you ordered it? So question for you? What the ordering process like? Like after your order is placed with the dealer, what happens next? You get a production date right and when do you get a VIN number and how long does it take from getting a VIN number to actual delivery?

thanks for the info,

This is my mistake - I used the phrase interchangeably, my apologies. The car was on the lot - had just arrived the day before.

I purchased a GLB 250 Mid-July (Florida) and I love mine, too. Mine’s grey with black interior. It had just come off the loaner program so they sold it used, with a new car warranty. I agree, CarPlay is wonky and the foot-trunk liftgate takes some getting used to. Mine didn’t come with Satellite radio (???) but CarPlay serves the purpose and since I’ve always used Waze for navigation, I didn’t need a nav system in the car. Feels bigger than it is when driving. Also the engine has enough power to get me outta trouble if I need it to. I haven’t figured out how to get the car to auto-lock when I get out of it. Maybe it won’t? Still working through that one. I like being able to adjust the color scheme and the gauges - hope a future download will provide additional options. 😊

Fits 4 comfortably, I think 5 might be a bit of a squeeze but I’m really glad I got it.

hope this helps!

If you double click the lock button, it puts the keyfob in sleep mode, so you won’t be able to use the hands free lift gate. FYI.

Double clicking when you get out of the car? Meaning if you lock the car with the fob, it goes into sleep mode?

Correct. Pushing the lock button twice will put the keyfob to sleep.

From the manual:
Deactivating the SmartKey functions
If you do not use the vehicle or a SmartKey for an extended period of time, you can reduce the energy consumption of the respective SmartKey. To do so, deactivate the SmartKey functions. # To deactivate: press the lock button on the SmartKey twice in quick succession. The SmartKey indicator lamp flashes twice briefly and lights up once.

A Mercedes obviously!
Picked up my new GLB a few weeks ago and have been rather happy with it so far! Haven't had a chance to try out some of self parking features and the like but it's my first MB with MBUX and it's pretty excellent given the playing I've had with it so far.

Does anyone know why when coming to a stop the navigation screen goes into "dashcam mode" and shows one of the forward facing cameras? It then reverts back to the map once I pull away. I'm sure there's a good reason why...not bothersome, just curious.

It's the traffic light view/assist feature, to give you a better view of the traffic light.

You can change that in settings, so you can get a prompt if you want to use the feature when you stop at an intersection.

Picked up my new GLB 2 weeks ago. It has less than 200 miles. I was told that there’s a break in period for at least 1000 miles. Is this true?

Break-in period depends on who you ask. the Dealer told me not necessary, and others and the owners manual say yes.
On a test drive here in Chicago- the salesperson told me to stomp the accelerator to the floor in all drive modes when he rode with us. Something the owners manual doesn't recommend I don't think.

Thanks for the response. That’s insane?!! That’s the first thing they tell you Not to do. I had a loaner with about 1500 miles and it was zippy. My brand new one drives like a “New” car. I was told it will get use to my driving skills. I don’t believe the dealer. I don’t have time to continually take my care in for service. I’m driving moderately; something I already do.

That sounds like the old advice from decades ago to "seat the valves." I've NEVER done it and also NEVER had a problem. All of our Benzes have been running strong at 180,000+ miles.
I suggest avoiding the extremes for the first 1200 or so miles.

Mercedes-Benz GLB is the only SUV model I would love to own in the family of Mercedes-Benz SUV Range . I find some little nitpicking same as other compact Mercedes-Benz models as well.
Gear lever and wiper stalk : Too thin and looks cheap
Trim : Only front doors come with the trim pieces ,why not rear doors ? Rear doors should have come with the trim pieces too
Hood strut : Yes, you can lift it easily but why only 1 strut while other models starting from C Class come with 2 hood lifters
Memory Option : You can't power adjust the headrest as well as steering wheel .
Pedals : Yes, AMG package still have plush , nice aluminum pedals but C Class's and other upscale Mercedes-Benz models are much better

Those are the areas I thought should be improved upon but Mercedes-Benz would deliberately not touch those little areas as GLB and other compact models should not interfere with the upscale cars
Happy Driving , I like GLB

You can plug a thumb drive into the armrest port(s) , load it with your music (mp3) and it will play.
