GLC Order Waiting Room
#876
My 43 hit Baltimore VPC on Sat Nov 18 and was at the dealer on Wed Nov 22. A lot quicker than I thought. My dealer was in Wilm, DE, so not too far from Baltimore. I was expecting at least a week or 2 wait from the 18th. VPC depends on a few variables like any issues at port, recalls, etc, but probably 2-3 days with NO issues is a good estimate.

Originally ordered a 2017 GLC43 in January. After a string of dealer missteps and failures to communicate, it turned into a 2018 GLC43 scheduled for early November build. Very frustrating. I had previously asked the dealer for a Netstar production status screenshot but was told that he could only see the color code, not the production codes. From Vaboy's screenshot post, it looks like accessing the production status should just be a matter of hitting the "VII" button under the Vehicle Inventory tab. Is it that simple or are there other steps involved or maybe a level of access issue? Thanks.

From the WWL site:
DELIVERED FROM BALTIMORE, MD 30-11-2017 10:47:58 1
LINER RELEASE BALTIMORE, MD 30-11-2017 10:47:44
CUSTOMS RELEASE WOODCLIFF LAKE, NJ 30-11-2017 00:00:00
DISCHARGED BALTIMORE, MD 28-11-2017 21:05:00
Anyone know what all of this means? Am I getting my hopes up? Haven't heard from my SA in a few days but I'm hoping to hear an update from her soon. As you can probably tell I'm extremely new to all of this.

Means car should now be ready for a trailer to be transported to your dealer. Dealer then preps the car and it gets delivered to you. Depending on how far from Baltimore you live, that will be how looking it'll take to get to you...

My order experience was that I got the the decade of the allocation I was being sold the same day I made the order...the dealership should be selling you something that's already allocated. This was back in July, they showed me the allocation on their computer for 1st decade of Sep. I got an the exact build date a few weeks before it happened.
If your GLC is pretty standard, is there a reason why you don't just buy one already at a dealership somewhere? Or at least have them locate one for you.

Thanks Blockage. I was wondering how long it takes for vehicle to get through the VPC. A bit disappointing to see that it arrived Nov 18 and did not get to dealer until Dec 7!! That's 19 days- which I hope is NOT typical.
Mine is on the Wallenius vessel TOMAR and on its way. Dealer has not called me yet with this info- I tracked it myself with the VIN# of their web site.
Anyway congrats and hope you enjoy the new vehicle. -I am anxiously awaiting mine.

GLC 2018
Finally have our new GLC after over five months. For the record, here are the dates:
July 4th -- ordered car. Was told production would be 1st decade Sept due to supply constraints of advanced headlight package.
Sept 6th -- production complete in Finland
Sept 12 -- at port in Bremerhaven
Oct 24 -- left Bremerhaven on Grand Cosmo. No explanation why car waited in port so long
Nov 24 -- arrived in Long Beach
Dec 6 -- arrived at dealer in San Jose
Dec 12 -- picked up car. Unable to get it on the 6th as we were on vacation.
I was able to use the extra delay to get another 2% discount (on top of 8% already obtained). On top of this United's program gave us another $1500 discount plus 25000 points.
My wife loves her new car.

My '18 GL was assembled in Finland, and am very happy overall, I don't think there is any difference vs Germany assembly.
That was a good discount, at 10%. Which package did you get?
What is the United discount program?

Cleared Panama Canal
My ordeal. Wife says I should have cancelled the order and bought an Audi SQ5. Just couldn't let go of the GLC43.
Jan 15 Placed order, assigned Mar 2nd decade build
Apr 04 Notified by dealer order cancelled by factory because no more designo white
Apr 11 Dealer reordered as 2018, assigned Jun 1st decade build
May 11 Discovered dealer had not translated options correctly from MY2017 to MY2018 (Thanks to MY2018 DOG posted by rihallix)
Jun 20 Dealer reordered with correct options, assigned Aug 1st decade build
Jul 19 Notified by dealer that build rescheduled to Sep 2nd decade
Aug 26 Notified by dealer that build rescheduled for Nov 1st decade
Nov 03 B30 DCAG X - Processed
Nov 15 B50 Produced Not Ship
Nov 17 B70 At Port - No Ship Assignment
Nov 26 Shipped out of Bremerhaven on MOL Gracious Ace
Dec 14 Cleared Panama Canal after stops in Brunswick and Jacksonville (2 days ahead of schedule)
Dec 29 Due Long Beach VPC after several stops at Central American ports
Jan 09 Due to arrive at dealership in Portland
Dealer slow responsiveness and lack of follow through made this even more frustrating than the timeline would suggest.
What else could go worng? Maybe the ship will hit an ice berg off Costa Rica.
I have become obsessive about tracking the Gracious Ace. In case others have not posted this info, Fleetmon.com offers 15 day access to satellite tracking info for 12 euros. Also, it is possible for shipment on MOL ships to get the ship schedule from their website (http://www.molroro.com/MOLVesselSchedule.aspx)

Why not just buy from a dealer’s lot? There’s plenty of that color combo around, and probably a few with most of those options. I wanted the Designo white interior and active LED headlamps, that took me months to find on a lot but still faster than custom order.

In our situation back in January, there were very few GLC43s available in this area, let alone any with the set of options we wanted. I checked inventories at all dealerships from Everett to the Bay Area. Also, there was the issue of sales tax in CA and WA if you drive the car of the lot rather than trailering it out of the state. Here in Oregon there is no sales tax. Anyway, waiting for delivery in May didn't seem that intolerable. The only saving grace of having stuck with this order for so long is we will now have a 2018 rather than 2017.

ALCPDX,
It definitely sounds like your dealer dropped the ball multiple times. They should have been able to reconfigure an existing allocation for you rather than continuing to kick the can down the road. I ordered my '17 GLC43 at MB of Wilsonville and even though I had to wait for the next available allocation it only took 5.5 months from finalizing the order to taking delivery. It really sounds like each time their was an issue with your build your dealer just relinquished the allocation instead of notifying you and fixing it. I'm curious which dealer you went to since there are only 3 in our area (Beaverton, PDX, and Wilsonville).
BTW, our GLC43 is configured very similar to yours with the designo white, 20" wheels, and night package. Main difference is that we went with the saddle brown interior. Night package looks great on this vehicle. I think you'll be very happy with it once it finally shows up.
