May I also get info on the 10% discount in SoCal? I didn't start negotiation yet but most I have seen so far in NorCal was 5%.

I am helping out a friend who is in the market for new GLC. He needs lighting, heated front seats, Premium, Multimedia, Driver Assistance, and Burmester and it seems like there is no inventory in this area (DMV) with this option and it has to be ordered. One dealer he was talking too only offered $1000 off sticker for that order which I think it is not good at all when other dealers are willing to offer 9-10% off for the cars in stock.

I find, as a general rule, the easiest way to get a low initial offer is getting an "internet offer" from a dealers website.

Even if you are planning to a custom order, negotiating is easier if the sales person has already offered a fairly good discount on a stock car.

I'm at a 6% discount and I haven't started to negotiate yet (Chicago). I suspect aiming for 8%-10% is reasonable. The GLC may be new and well reviewed, but the world economy is slow. The car market in China has slowed down considerably. It is also currently winter many places. I doubt dealerships are expecting to easily sell all the GLCs they can get.

Also, I don't believe in doing the hard negotiating at the dealership closet to home. Get a good price elsewhere and bring it to the place where you want to purchase. The dealer closets to home believe he has an inherent advantage. The guy 30 miles away think he has to work for the business.

Paying a good auto broker $500 to find the car is probably money well spent for most people. Especially busy people who hate the whole negotiation process.

GLC
I ordered GLC rear wheel drive. My MSRP was $47190. I got a 10% discount on my MSRP + $1000 MB Fleet discount from my company which brought down the base price to $41,471. Final price ($41,171 + $41 Government Fee + $638 Doc & title fee + $2947 tax = $45,097). I have placed the order, build is scheduled for March 2nd week, delivery is expected in April first week. If I calculate the over all discount including MB fleet discount, it totals to 12.11%. I live in Atlanta suburbs.

I just custom ordered my GLC from a DC area dealer. Unfortunately, I had not read this forum beforehand. I was able to get around 7% off MSRP as I told them this was discount for european delivery which I was considering. Im getting black/black sport, premium, lighting, multimedia, driver assist, advanced park assist, panarama roof, heated front seats, heated steering wheel. MSRP $56,025. Was told there was $299 dealer processing fee. I paid $52,100 +TTL. Will take 6 weeks to deliver. Not bad deal but wish I tried for more off.

I have not finalized my deal yet, but I wonder how a dealer can offer 10% discount when the spread between invoice and MSRP is less than 5%.

If he has not finalized it! It is not a done deal. He might come back to you with different numbers when you finalize deal.

It's called holdback. The vehicle manufacture remits an amount of money back to the dealer for each vehicle sold by the dealer.

Try Fletcher Jones. They've been the most competitive in the bay area.

If you are saying Fletcher Jones in Fremont Auto Mall, then forget about it. Not even a chance. My home is just 5 minutes to them. Obviously they are my first choice (also lots of my colleagues). However, after I visited and discussed custom build, discount % is really low. Totally cannot do like 9 or 10% discount in LA metro area.

So I give up and place order in a SoCal dealer. For a 50K build, 4% discount in bay area and 10% discount in LA, man, it's 6% or $3,000 difference! I can easily visit LA within 5 or 6 hours drive, get a car and save $3,000, why buy it in bay area?

Yeah that's whom I meant. Too bad. Almost exactly 3 years ago I was able to get 9% out of them. Parlayed that to 10% in Sacramento area. Things must have changed!

To be honest with you, I was so frustrated when I visited various dealers here. I visited M.Benz, BMW, Acura, Lexus, etc, and also browsed these brand's internet forum just like here mbworld.org. You know what, seems to me that Bay Area dealer is really difficult to negotiate. I have to assume that people have higher average income in Bay Area and don't really care about discount %.

If you go to SolCa dealer website, you can easily find they have 20+ or 30+ GLC inventories. But in Bay Area, every dealer has very few or even nothing. They always said GLC is so "hot" and quickly gone. There was a time I went to Mercedes Benz Oakland because they got a GLC inventory (the only one they have). So many people came to see/test drive it in the same time. My wife and I just looked it for 10 minutes.

If they can easily sell it without offering big discount, why would they do 10% for me, right? That's why I am thinking, may be people here are so rich and do not need to negotiate to save money.

Similar experience when I searched around for BMW X3 and Lexus NX. For those discount % people shared on internet forum, you just can't get that in Bay Area.

You can only get the heated wheel with black or beige MB-tex, black leather or one of the designo interiors.
