Current owners - what would you change?

There probably aren't enough owners with enough seat time to really get a good answer to this but I thought I'd ask just the same.

I'm really close to ordering one of these (waffling on this and the Evoque but that's a different topic) and a question I always ask current owners is: If you could, what would you change about the car?

I've always found one or two things on cars I've owned that I'd like to change so it's interesting to hear what others think so I can scope it out ahead of time to see if it's something that would really bother me.

Here's an example: My wife owns a VW Touareg and you can't shut off the radio without shutting down the entire infotainment system which contains climate control, NAV, etc. Basically, you just have to turn the radio volume all the way down to "shut it off". I think it's a horrible design and it drives me batty but I rarely drive it. It's not something I noticed when we did a test drive.

Only change would be on my 2016 AMG, I don't like to set it to park is a push of the P button. Would have liked it on the shifter.

Same on the GLC, I prefer a blank screen, otherwise it is distracting, particularly at night, I don't listen to the radio or CDs and usually know where I am going so don't want maps. Then when it is off it disconnects the phone and you can't accept phone calls without switching the screen on, waiting for it to initialise and hope the caller has not given up or gone to answer phone! Really annoying.

Little trick: open the drivers door and car automatically goes to park. I just come to a stop, open the drivers door and hit the engine stop button. Done.

We're really happy with our GLC and to be honest, there's nothing we'd change.

I test drove again for about 45 mins and had seen your post previous to doing so and you're right, it shuts everything down. However, at least on the GLC you can hit the mute button to effectively kill the radio. On my wife's Touareg, there is no mute, you have to turn the volume down. The kicker is, when you re-start the car, the volume gets automatically turned up just a little bit which is annoying and forces you to either turn it up or back down again.

Yes! I noticed this when configuring...I don't get that at all. I'm very tired of black interior.

Thanks for everyone's input thus far.

My wife and I decided to go ahead and pick up the GLC. We are going back to work out the specifics on Tuesday. I've read that the online config tool isn't 100% to what you can truly order so I'm hoping there are other options besides black for heated steering wheel.

Actually the configurator is pretty accurate. I asked about ordering the heated steering wheel and my dealer said it was only available with black interior (I saw computer as well). Very strange indeed.

they can definitely keep the console which is beautiful and functional. Its like mouse and touch screen can exist the same time. We just got the car today so you can imagine theres a learning curve.

Once you get used to and learn the features of your car, you'll actually appreciate why they don't use touch screens in just about all the German brands. I don't know what systems you got, but if you got Multi-Media, the Voice Comand System is awesome. I can use the voice button on the steering wheel to do just about anything, from making a phone call to a number or contact in my phone's address book, to changing radio stations and entering addresses for the navigation system. I can even summon Siri on my iPhone via the voice button on the steering wheel.

ha... haven't got a chance to go over the manual yet... we should have the voice package... the canadian package is a bit different but we got almost everything besides the intelligent drive package. definitely will try it out.

Did you get the air suspension? If so, how is that working for you? Did anyone discuss its reliability and cost to fix. I find that all the professional car reviewers say good stuff about it, but I'd like to hear from the owners. Thanks.

Agree. Imaging if you put your iPad there, it would soon get a lot of finger prints, and look gross, and then ruin your elegant GLC interior. Especially when the console screen is turned off, these finger prints would be more obvious.

In terms of the options I chose at build time - I waffle a bit if I should have gotten leather interior and the stitched dash. I would have liked parking assist, but not at the expense of no trailer hitch. And I would have liked heated stearing wheel, but not if it meant getting black leather interior.

In terms of the car itself:
I am tall (6'3", 190cm)...I wish that I could angle the driver side mirror properly so I could use it without having to duck down lower in the seat....BUT this is my first car with blind spot assist, and I'm learning it's VERY reliable so this is not as bad an issue. I also wish maybe that there was more yet cabin height, but what I have is a huge improvement over the C300 I had previously.

Rear Windshield Wiper

I went to clean the glass on the rear window and lightly hit the windshield wiper where upon it fell of the arm. It's only held on the arm with friction on two small plastic protrusions. Kind of cheap for an upscale car. I would think MB would do better than that.

1. Actually buttons for the radio presents.
2. Bigger outside mirrors (like those on the ML/GLE).

That's it -- it's a great vehicle (and I've leased an E320, CLK320, E350, 2 ML350s, annd an ML550 before this). Far peppier than you'd think from the 241 hp.

I ordered mine when they first came out, back in Sept. My sales rep said ordering the air suspension might cause a delay (and I already doing a month to month extension of my ML lease), and I've heard air suspension has been a source of problems on other models, so I didn't order it. Recommendation -- get the Designo interior.I have it in black. Gorgeous!

Wish it had a touch screen and Apple CarPlay. Believe VW is the only German brand that does touchscreens.

I think that in general, Germans, at least MB, thinks touch screens are a no no. They would distract the driver too much. Not my opinion.. theirs.

My wife has a Lexus ES with a touchscreen. It always looks horrible with fingerprints.

Would be nice if Mercedes at least offered the option of touch screen control (in addition to the controller wheel), especially since the screen is easily within reach of both the driver and passenger.

I'm sure that I'll get used to it in time - have only had the GLC for a few days. But I love the touchscreen interface in my GTI, and the fingerprints have never bothered me.

Mirrorlink and Carplay are the obvious omission from the 2016 model year.
