Noise from dash

After 24h of testing, my service adviser called this afternoon and informed that the dash noise seems to be coming from the strut. They ordered some parts for tomorrow plus some special grease to apply to see if it fixes it. Fingers crossed.

Spoke with my (future) service dept today to get some maintenance costs on the GLC and when I asked him about any issues with the GLC, he mentioned the strut, so it is apparently a known issue now.

My service adviser also told me the demand of GLC strut is on the rise. He thinks MB knows it's an issue by now.

Had my GLC in for service today for the noise. The service guy heard the noise on his test drive. They had a service notification about the noise so it must be known. All they did this visit was to apply special grease and mold lubricant to surface between spring and spring support. We'll see how long that fix lasts.

Just past week when the weather warmed up to 60-70s, I heard a rattling, creaking sound from our driver's side dashboard. It sounds high pitched/ metallic like a screw is loose and occasionally I can also hear a louder "creak" at the same area. This happens when driving straight and when I hit potholes or even slight bumps on the road. So I made an appointment with the dealership to have it looked at. When I drove it in today with the temperature dropping back to 40-50s, the sound vanished. Murphy's Law..

Sounds like my GLC has the same strut issue as other posters in this thread. For anyone that has been through it - did your dealer say what actually is the cause? Bit hesitant to continue to drive the vehicle - calling the dealer tomorrow but usually getting a rental isn't instant.

If anyone has recorded the noise, would you mind sharing the sound file for others like me to compare?

I too have the dreaded "noise from dash". To my ears it's obviously suspension related. I have a service appointment next week. It's easiest to hear when I'm going up a very steep neighborhood hill or when the road is uneven and one side of the car dips then recovers - below 20 or 25 mph. I can also hear some barely perceptible creaking at moderate highway speeds.

Thanks Maylin! Called the dealer - the service adviser who I have had 8 years of extensive history of repairs with with my previous 07 ML320CDI stated that they never heard of this problem before . The two R/Os in this thread should help. Keep you appraised of what happens. I'd rather not have the dealer starting to remove my interior because at least THAT doesn't rattle now. Thanks again!

Mine is standard suspension too. I'll get mine fixed next Tue. Hope the new strut is form a different supplier or good batch.
In my case, the creaky noise was very hard to hear then getting louder over ~1 month. Now I can hear it even with radio on. If you have bad strut, don't worry, it will show up eventually and very hard to ignore.
