What will fix scratches on the "wood"

I accidentally scratched the high-gloss finish of the "wood grain" center console just by rubbing my finger across it. Is this really wood that's been lacquered to a high-gloss shine or just plastic? Does anyone have any suggestions for the best way to remove these fine superficial scratches? I was looking at products that take scratches out of clear coat paint, but some of them say not for use on wood. I'm afraid of taking off the finish.

Yes, I have a photo, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to upload pics into a post. What's the easiest way?

It is real wood veneer mounted on plastic with a clear finish.

Mercedes wood trim was always bonded to an aluminum backing to prevent splintering in a crash. I believe that's still the case.

A gaggle of MB's
My spelling might be "off" but a polish/compound with "diatomaceous earth" should be "safe" to try.. start with a pea-size drop on the scratch - pressure with soft cloth - reapply another pea, etc... it's a safe light abrasive .. actallu breaks down into non-abrasive under repeated light pressure.. also good for light scratch, polish marks, rubs/paint transfer... kind of handy and a small bottle lasts a long time..

Thanks for the suggestion and a link to it on Amazon! Looks like a great product. I plan on purchasing it.

Harley-Davidson sells a proprietary product called "Scratch and Swirl Repair". I haven't used it on wood trim, but it works well for light scratches on clear-coated paints. It's very mildly abrasive and doesn't remove heavy scratches. BUT, use with caution; maybe first try a tiny test spot on a less visible area like an edge of the back door trim.
