Acoustic Glass, Driver/Passenger Doors

I am not going to live with that noise. You can, it's a free world. My Lexus was quieter than the GLC, and it had acoustic glass. There is a reason they use it. HELLO!

If they really wanted to go a long way towards minimizing noise they would use thicker double paned glass like was used on my S-Class on both the front and rear side windows. While the glass is not the only reason why the S-Class is quieter, I've had several people tell me the GLC is a very quiet ride, and frankly their correct. 66db at 75mph is pretty good for a truck or any vehicle for that matter.
Hope your glass replacement goes well and look forward to your subjective thoughts after its completed.

I agree AJMB1, I think all the windows should be that way but, I guess they have to save some features for the higher end models.
Well, the new windows are in. No damage and no rattling. You would never know the panels were removed. Is it a huge difference, no, is it better, yes. Now the wind tunnel noise does not start till about 80+ mph, a speed at which I don't drive, before it started at 55-60 mph. I am happy.
There is actually a service bulletin on this issue which is why they took care of it. Not only did they replace the glass but they installed a piece of foam insulation, 1/2 inch wide by 1 inch long, somewhere in each door. Can't remember exactly where they said it was going to go. It was part of the service bulletin package. Service Bulletin # L172.10-P-062500.
As a first time Mercedes buyer I am very pleased with the way this was handled. Mercedes Benz of Arrowhead is AWESOME!

Glad all went well and your happy Mitch1975. That's interesting about the added foam. Also thanks for posting the service bulletin, I'm sure that will help any members who would like to have the work done.

Hi, my car just arrived at the dealer and saw it tonight. They still need to prep it so I'll be picking it up this Saturday. While checking out the car, I did look at the driver's side window and I didn't see the word "acoustic" printed on the glass window. However, the salesperson assured me that it is as they all come as standard. Should I be worried?

Your salesperson is in error.
In my case when I pointed out the identical anomaly on my GLC, after sorting it out, the dealer allowed the window would be replaced.
At least one additional forum member has had an identical experience with the dealer also deciding to replace a non-acoustic window.
Is the right side front window identified as acoustic?

I posted the service bulletin above in an earlier comment. You just tell the dealer that the car has excessive wind noise and you are not happy. Mercedes reimburses them for all costs, so they are not out anything. I had them hold off tinting my windows till this was resolved. Good Luck.
PS My windshield does not say acoustic on it. Not sure if I want to go there or not, I do have the HUD so maybe they don't have those in acoustic glass.

MBWorld Fanatic!
Windshield not marked acoustic on mine. I do not have HUD but have park assist and driver assist with all the cameras.

You do have to state that you are getting wind noise from the front 2 windows. They have to have a complaint to go on. Attached is a copy of the work order. Hope this helps.

BTW - when we saw the car last night, the lighting package is sooooo worth it! It made the car look so sexy inside and out!

The pano roof will make it noisier inside. Be sure to at least have the cover closed on it.
I got the lighting package as well. It is awesome. Amazing at night with all the lighting theatrics.

From Automobile Mag comparo of CLC, X4, Macan:
GLC 300 transmission and cabin noise: "....but we noted rough shifts with the throttle mashed. And at speed, the GLC has the least isolated cabin of the three"

From Honestjohn UK review site:
"It’s the way that Mercedes-Benz has dampened out the outside world that makes that so. There’s very little road or wind noise, even at motorway speed, while engine drone is virtually nonexistent at lower revs."

Here in the UK, I have a late 2015 production GLC and there doesn't appear to be any acoustic glass in our vehicle. Saying that I don't recall any mention in the MB GLC sales brochure on this when I was looking at buying? Is this something that is only specified on the US cars?
Having driven at reasonable speed on the motorways I don't appear to get excessive road noise at all?

For all you peeps with or without acoustic glass, run a vin search of your car here
http://carinfo.kiev.ua/cars/vin/mercedes/vin_check
And post if you have code 851 for acoustic glass and that matches what you actually have on the car.
Thanks
