Running board
Hi there
Mine GLC 250 doesn't have the running board at this moment, for the children point of view (6-7yrs old), would it be big improvement for them instead of climbing / jumping from their seats?? For myself, I believe the running board would just cos more trouble for adult to hop in / hop out from the SUV? Please correct me if I was wrong.

We purposely did not get the running board because my wife didn't like having it on my X6. For her (shorter legs) - especially in a skirt, it makes it a wider step into the car and just rubs dirt/salt/grime onto her pants. I didn't have as much of a problem and I like the look of them but did have times where it duid rub stuff on my pants so was ok with leaving them off. I did inquire about adding them after delivery and it was MUCH more expensive but possible.

I had running boards on 3 X5 and 2 ML and not on this GLC and it took me that long to realise that besides looks they are a pain. They are of no use and always in the way.
I forgot one positive point: while washing the car if you climb on them it is easier to access the roof.

I think they are functionally useless and do make it a bit more inconvenient to get in and out of the car. That having been said, we have them (they are standard in Australia) and it definitely improves the look of the car - the stance looks great.

if someone in Oz ever fits running boards, I would be interested in buying the plain skirts and brackets, screws, etc. thanks

They are merely cosmetic. The only real functionality they have is that they may protect you from careless parking door dings from some lower vehicles. They make the car more difficult to get in and out off and are not worth paying any extra for.

I got my glc with the running board because my gf insisted. As others said, they make the car look sportier but that's about it. They definitely make entering/exiting the car more hassle and getting used to.

My wifey also insisted in them.
I must say it does look sporty and assists the kids and my old folks getting into the car.
Definitely worth it!
/edit it also assists with washing the roof of the car

GLC 250 (X253)
I bought the GLC 250 SUV in December 2017, had the running boards removed before leaving the dealership.
I kept them & still have them in my garage.
Will sell them if any one interested.

We have them;
Pros - they look sportier and they protect the lower paint
Cons - it's a bit more of a stretch to get in and out and when they are dirty they can mess up your pants.
I'm happy I have them but wouldn't pay extra for them
