How to disable key fob.
I am planning on keeping a spare key fob in the car in case I ever loose my key that I carry. Having keyless access and start I need the spare key to be disabled while in the car. Should I take the battery out or is there another way to temporarily disable it?

Page 84 of the Operator's Manual says, "If you do not intend to use a SmartKey for an extended period of time, you can deactivate the KEYLESS-GO function of the SmartKey. The SmartKey will then use very little power, thereby conserving battery power". It then lists instructions on how to disable and re-enable it.

Please remember - when you re-activate the fob - you need to pull the Keyless Start button and use the fob to start the MB once like a regular MB - so that the MB "re-recognizes" the key - after you have done that once - then you can use Keyless-Start/Keless-Lock/Unlock with that key again...

Under the Deactivating and activating SmartKey section, the Owner's Manual says:
To activate:
Press any button on the SmartKey.
or
Insert the SmartKey into the ignition lock. KEYLESS-GO and all of its associated features are available again.

you wouldn't, unless you have the app. This thread was about disabling a smartkey's transmitting feature, so as to preserve battery life of the key. All 2015 and up have this ability (if equipped with keyless go)

you wouldn't, unless you have the app. I presume you're referring to mbrace which is not available in Canada. I have no idea if mbrace or similar app is available in Ireland.

My car can be unlocked online so in the event of losing a key I can simply unlock from my phone and access the key (hidden in car) enable it by pressing any button and start the car.
