Ventilated Seats Does not Really Cool

I really enjoy this GLC.
However, my Ventilated Seats Does not Really Cool and just found it out recently. I set it at the highest setting but only feel a little of cooling in the back rest and nothing in the bottom cushion. I also have a hyundai with vent seat, which I can clearly feel the chilling from bottom and back.

I took it to the dealer and they said it is normal and was designed this way.
Anyone with the vent seat has any comment?

They are a poor design i have the same

They are intaking air from rear and smashing it in your butt

Ideally the air in back should be cold from the ac before they work better but they don't use actually air directly from the ac to blow on your body

Someone commented they worked better by creating space between your butt and the seat by using those beads on the seat like cabbies have

. . . and ours are "merely" ventilated.

I do find that mine make a difference, though. I don't find the back of my shirt soaked on hot days if I use them.

Yes. But I am just very disappointed for not having the cool seat for a car at this price and this luxury level

I had the same problem with my ventilated seats, especially the front passenger seat - I don't feel any change in temperature at all, even at it's highest...same with the heating seat system feature. I did have it check and apparently, it's normal and they can't do anything to improve it. My driver seat works better than the passenger seat. The service advisor's explanation is because there's more padding on the passenger seat to accommodate a lighter-weight passenger in order for the airbag to function properly. The MB mechanic compared my GLC300 with older models and found that the older models' vent technology has air blowing upward, but apparently the air vent on the new GLC300 is blowing downward like a vacuum so you don't feel the air as much. He wasn't aware of the change so he had to look up the manual, page 112-115 (seats) where it explains how the seating climate system is expected to work. Personally, I would prepare the air to blow upward so you can feel the temperature changing, rather than sucking it down like a vacuum. Do they really think by directing the air downward would make the seat feel cooler? Bottom line, it's a useless upgrade!

I just sold an S500 with ventilated seats and therefore got that option on the GLC. I find that the cooling is more noticeable in the GLC than it was in the S500. Maybe because it pulls from the top I feel it on my upper back more or something like that. In any case, I find the ventilation makes a big difference and I have a black interior and live in the desert. I'm happy with it.

Do you feel heat at all with the heated seats? I didn't get to try them being that when I test drove, the weather wasn't cool enough.

I do feel the heat on the driver side just fine but, not as well on the passenger side.

Oh okay then the padding part makes sense. I expected the ventilated part wouldn't cool, just circulate air. Which is still something. I live in the hot desert and sweaty butts are common in the summer so it's still helpful.

The problem with this system in any car is the weight of your body compresses the foam/padding and the air channels collapse, preventing ventilation through them.

For half of the cost. It is shame on MB.

Every Mercedes I have had with ventilated seats has been the same. Poor effect if any; unlike GM cars where you get a real cooling effect. Mercedes are wonderful cars but do have some shortcomings.

Lexus has the same problem. I googled "ventilated seats arent cooling" and not only did it pull up a few Lexus forums, but I also found out that ventilated seats and cooled seats are two totally different things.

So...exercise, lose weight and eat better. Obviously the cooling system has a weight limit.

It worked on my old Lexus and I'm pretty bulky. It had air ducts connected from AC going into the rear seats.

It has nothing to do with my weight...but thanks for assuming I'm a fat slob. The seats have foam in them, to which the air channels run through. Foam, by it's very nature, collapses which is what makes the seat comfortable, otherwise you might as well be sitting on a wood plank. When the foam collapses, the ducts collapse. Not all but a fair number. If you are light enough to not collapse the foam, then you must be a small animal.

Okay so the ones I read about must of been cheaper, older models. The ventilated seats I know about are simply fans.

And sorry little fans they are. The other day I was looking under the seat just to check it out. For the bottom cushion there are 2 CPU fans that do the work, one on each side. I guess something is better than nothing. Definitely bigger fan for the back of the seat, that one I feel.
