How good or bad are the halogen lights vs the LED's

How good or bad are the halogen lights on the GLC, most of the cars that I'm seeing on dealers lots have the halogen lights. I have found the spec, I would like at a couple dealership within a couple hundred miles but they all have halogen lights. I don't understand why dealers order their cars without the LED's or Mercedes needs to make them standard.

Question is how bright are the halogen or should I wait and order one with the LED's.

I'm looking at the standard LED's not the one's in the P3 package.

The stock halogens are pretty dismal in my opinion. Upgraded with better bulbs they are passable but, seems like a failure on MB part that these old tech parts were specs on the GLC.

If you drive in city environments the Halogen are good enough. Update bulbs to premium.

If you drive in country or dark roads... the LED INTELLIGENT SYSTEM is "brutal". You will never go back.

Halogens suck and MB halogens are just as sucky as any other manufacturer. If I were stuck with halogens I would start researching a full HID or LED retrofit with proper projectors.

Much easier and cheaper to just upgrade to the basic LED system if you don't want the top tier packages with the ILS. I have ILS on my C450 and even the neutered US version is great. I have also test driven the regular LEDs at night in the rain and they are almost as good as the ILS version and much better than any halogens.

"Premium" halogen bulbs are only marginally better than stockers. In the past, I have run just about every premium bulb out available from Sylvania, Phillips/Osram, Hella, and Nokya. They are slightly brighter and some provide better contrast. All of them had much shorter lifespans than stock components. Silverstar Ultras were the worst, they usually last 10-13months. Phillips Xtravision last around 2 years but aren't quite as bright. All of them are very expensive, typically 2 or 3 times the price for standard bulbs.

YMMV, but I'm happy to embrace LED and ditch the old tech.

On a scale from 1 to 10. 1 being the worst headlights I have experience and 10 being the best.

I would rate the Halogens at around 3. It is bright enough in town (with lit streets)

I would rate the standard LEDs at around 7. It doesnt shine far enough.

I would rate the Xenon ILS at 8.5. Was my favorite until...

10 upon 10 for the new LED ILS on the GLC.

LED light package is a must-have
Hi there! This is my first post on MBworld

To answer your question, in my honest opinion the LED lighting Package (the one with AHA) adds so much to the car. Many features of the GLC package can be found at this
, and I will share my own thoughts with you as well.

These lights are BRIGHT, they illuminate the entire road with such brilliant white light, and I think that Halogen lamps would not illuminate 1/4 of what these lights can. The technology involved is outstanding, when you turn your wheel, or enter a roundabout, the lights follow your intended direction, illuminating the corner you are about to take. This improves safety tenfold, but also adds an incredible sense of wow-factor when you see them in action, as both the driver and pedestrian. The looks of the LED lights from an aesthetic perspective are mouth-wateringly gorgeous. I am serious when I say that this package adds more value than any of the premium packages.

Ask me more questions if you would like. I will be posting around this forum often in different threads instead of making a "my GLC" post with a short story.

why even bother with halogens nowadays? There is no downside to getting better and brighter lights. The cost is not even that significant.

In conjunction with sat navigation they actually adjust as you approach a roundabout to widen the 'field' of light to improve vision. This widening also occurs on approach to a turn off that you are taking.

Highly recommend getting them.

I'm aware that the North American (actually, the U.S. - Canada just follows along) headlight regulations are archaic in the extreme, and limit the benefits of headlight technology innovation. Can you please tell me what LED ILS features and functionality we in Canada and the U.S. are missing, compared to what everyone else gets? Thanks!

ILEDSs come as standard here in Ireland..... but then again we pay as much for 250d as you do for AMG 43 so I suppose we would want to get something for our money!

this video will tell it better then i can. but basically our LED lights cant change beam dimensions or anything. they have the auto high beam on/off function and cornering lights but thats it. our high beams don't change their shape or get brighter or dimmer based on speed. we also don't have the flashing brake lights on the back during emergency braking. nor do we have amber turn lights in the rear which bugs the hell out of me. it should be illegal to have red turn lights

i noticed the video was posted earlier.

Standard ILEDs are especially good in your beautiful country where I found myself driving on a road near Kilkenny barely wide enough for two cars. To make things worse, the road had no shoulders, a 500-yr-old hedgerow on one side and a stone wall on the other

When I was choosing options for my 16 GLC I ordered led headlights. The surprised salesperson said, "your willing to spend $1,100 for headlights? " The answer, an unequivocal yes.

Having experienced these lights the past four years, will not have another vehicle without them. Am such a fan have converted my Vette to led from hid.

Well, I love the LED lights on my GLC. They are very bright and ease driving at night immensely.

I had a conversation with my neighbour recently and we talked about headlights.
He said Xenon headlights are even brighter than LED headlights and far superior to them.
I know too little about this kind of headlights but my LED headlights are quite good.

What do you think about this? Would you prefer Xenon headlights if they were an option?

In a word, no. Further, my view is your neighbor is uninformed.

LEDs, especially high performance ones, have surpassed HID / xenon lighting in performance. In general LED is more efficient and cool, better at cycling on and off rapidly, and has a significant longevity advantage. In the case of the GLC with its multibeam headlights which consist of 84 individual computer controlled light sources per headlight, this would not be possible with xenon.

Have your neighbor go on Porsche’s configurator to build any 911 with the exception of the Turbo S. It’s an additional $3000 USD to get LED headlamps over bixenon. Interestingly, the headlights seem identical to the multibeam LEDs (84 LEDs) which we can option for a relative bargain at $800.
