Amber Backlit Buttons...outdated

Hi all,

My wife is enjoying the new GLC43 we picked up about a week ago - lots to like.

One thing that's kind of bugging me though is the backlit amber buttons that populate the center console and other locations. They seem like they are out of date in an otherwise very modern interior. I'm sure they are also the reason that we are limited to three ambient lighting colors - all colors that coordinate with the amber.

Think they will go with white backlit button lighting a la E and S class for 2018? They should as it would create a much more contemporary feel...

In the past, amber backlit buttons have been almost an MB signature. Similar to how BMW used orange, Audi and Pontiac used red, VW used blue and red, SAAB used Green, Buick used pale blue, etc.... Nowadays, manufacturers are shifting to white with occasional colored accents around guage clusters. Me personally, I could see why the amber could come off as dated, but I don't mind it.

i personally prefer amber over pure white. it isn't as harsh on the eyes i find. it has more of a glow instead of a glare. i guess it is the same reason i prefer incandescent's over LED and CFL lighting in my house.

I like the amber lighting as well. It's less distracting at night.

the reason amber/red/orange lighting is used is because it's less distracting during night time driving. your eyes are less sensitive to light on that part of the spectrum as opposed the part that includes white and blue light. so while the backlighting may appear dated, there's a madness behind it all.

Agree it might be less distracting but then contradicted when there is no amber in the ambient light system.

Will check mine as well JP, I know the only colour that is noticeable is blue, the ambient lighting is as good/bad as it was on my discovery sport.

Do you need to increase the intensity of the lighting if it is not noticeable?

Have checked and I do have the white . blue and amber although they are given names like solar, At full intensity and still not very noticeable although I have always had blue selected, will have a play when it gets dark.

Yes definitely not as bright as the new E class I had last week. But too be honest that was too much anyway. We do have ours set to blue as that is what the women in my life prefer....So who am I to argue...

I don't know about where you live, but here in the US there are significantly more color temp and wattage options with LED bulbs then there ever were with incandescents.

recently, there have become more options with colours and temps and wattages with regards to LED's. but still, they don't give off the same light. i can always tell a difference even with the incandescent temp LED's.

does anyone know if in the S Class you can change the button back lighting to amber? i know in that car it is pure white which i have seen in the showroom.
