GLC headlights

I'm looking to buy a glc. I can't seem to find if the base headlights are halogen or hid. Is backup camera standard? Can someone please educate me on this?

Standard headlights are halogen with LED daytime running lights. High Performance (not active) and Intelligent (active) LEDs are separate options. I have the High Performance version as I wasn't going to spend ridiculous money on the 2017 Premium 3 Package just to get the active ones. For 2018 I believe you can choose either LEDs separately. I strongly recommend getting either one.

Depends which market you are in, in UK it is different, would help if you added your location to your profile.

In the UK all glc's are fitted with led headlamps, the intelligent headlamps are an optional extra.

I believe the 3 options are the same worldwide with packaging bundles that differ per country. In the US/Canada, the lighting upgrade to LED or Intelligent LED are separate options not bundled with others. I opted for the intelligent LED as I think turning lights saves lives (both in and out of the car). I could not be more happy. My old GLK had them but the distance and clarity of the light thrown out on the LED s are amazing. When the auto high beams light up they throw light so far ahead and so wide I can light up a street, but the minute another vehicle appears in front of me, they autodial down perfectly each time. I only wish they offered the E class option of light that segmented and divided to allow people/vehicles to not be affected by percent high beams. Those are "reserved" for their upper end classes I guess. On extra tidbit, the cornering lights (separate from the LEDs that turn outwards) shine a low wide side light to help the LEDs light up in advance the entire 45 degree direction I am steering in. They come on at low speeds only for turns and I have seen the advantages already with deer hidden at the side of the road, dead still until the light hits them. Saved my GLC from getting hit. That alone paid for them. But I am in the country, city dwellers may simply not need that much light with street lamps everywhere...

agreed, its amazing how far teh high beams throw light
the multibeam headlights are not allowed in the US by law. i believe everywhere else the intelligent lights have the multibeam feature

We got the upgraded LED headlights (not the active) For $800. Wasn't worth the extra $1-2k imo for the full upgrade (in addition to the 800).

In this country, the following two features are standard:
. LED High Performance headlamps with integral daytime running lamps and fog lamp function
. Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus

I assume that what North American owners are referring to as "active" is the Adaptive Highbeam Assist Plus, whereby the light cast by the high beam headlights is shaped so as not to blind oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead of you. This feature is neat when it works, and makes kangaroo spotting (a common cause of accidents on country roads) a bit easier at night. But it is a bit slow to react and can sometimes not work as well as intended. Nice to have but would I pay for it? Not sure.

Once again this demonstrates that you can't assume that standard features and option packs are the same across all countries.

In the UK the upgraded LED lights are called "intelligent"and are an option, works brilliantly for me and well worth the extra.

2018 GLC 43 & 2014 SLK 350, gone 2016 E63 Wagon
Both my E63 and SLK have 'intelligent/adaptive high beam assist' which automatically selects high beams when light conditions are appropriate. Basically you set the headlights to use the high beam assist at all times (turn signal stalk pushed forward) and the system increases and decreases illumination automatically. The E63 has LED's and the SLK has HID's and both work perfectly - wonderful illumination on full illumination. If there is an oncoming vehicle the system automatically reduces the output to 'low beam' but it is not just the old style switching - the system lowers the output and refocuses the beams so the oncoming traffic is not affected. This is an excellent system and one that I would not do without and well worth the extra cost as mentioned by Philamg. I have found that the system reacts very quickly with oncoming traffic or when you approach vehicles from behind.

out of curiosity, how do the HID's compare to the LED's? The LED's seem very white, are the HID's the same
Definitely live the auto high beam feature and yes it reacts amazingly quickly. It really amazes me how much it illuminates everything.
If i were to purchase another MB i would likely get it again as it does work extremely well. i do find the standalone price crazy high though...

I also have the active LED headlights on my E63, and they were mandatory for me when looking for a GLC. I think they're well worth the price (extra $1100 over regular LED headlights), much more so than other comfort/cosmetic options. They work nearly perfectly as described/advertised.

I'm in the US and got the $850 LED lighting option. That money gets you full front and rear LEDs that perform much better than the standard lamps. They look great, too, and the price is a bargain compared to other MB options. I tried the "active" version and the lights were basically identical so I skipped the advanced lighting pack.

I had an opportunity to experience the active LED's in my last loaner car. Very impressive, and if it was available as a stand alone option for 2017 I probably would've ordered it. Being that it was only available as part of a ridiculously expensive Premium 3 Package, I chose the High Performance LED's for $850, which is a relative bargain. A big improvement over my last car's xenon HID lights, although I do miss how they swiveled with steering input.
