Unhappy Service B cost $1k?

Did I got ripped off? I went to a dealer that is close to my office to do the 2nd year service, and they charged $800+ on labor for 3hrs of work.
the whole maintenance cost $929 + alignment $184.9 + floor mat $60...

B-Service is just oil/filter, cabin filter, and brake bleed plus a bunch of simple inspections that I am sure take them about 5 mins to complete.

You can definitely get all that done for a lot less than $929 at an independent, or do it yourself for about $100 in supplies.

Alignment for $184 is not too bad for a dealer. I get alignments done at a shop that just does alignments for $70.

Did you get ripped off? Definitely.
Is that bill out of line with what any dealer will charge? No?

That's the main reason I get the pre-paid maintenance when I buy the car. It prevents those yearly blood pressure spikes.

I bought a pre-owned at 18k milage When I was reading the VMI I saw in the service packages it has the warranties and 4y/40k prepaid package... So I took it for granted that the package is transferrable......

Then I just learned yesterday that it's non-transferrable if I bought the pre-owned from a dealer.

Since it's the first service after I purchased this pre-owned GLC, I decided to take it to MB dealership... But this bill truly amazed me! I was thinking that may be all you MB owners are that rich and are all paying $$$$$ for maintenances

Next time I will definitely take it to an independent!

Look online local MBZ dealers always have coupons for A and B service. Around LA seen them go for $375-400 service B with a coupon. Get to know your service guy good BS with him/her some are cool and want to be friends others are 🤬 but getting to know them you won’t need coupon he/she will give you a good discount automatically. With a nice loaner.

This. If you don't have prepaid maintenance, then start looking for coupons and deals about a month or two before you need the service. There's always something coming in the mail or online to take the sting out of dealer service.

List price around Chicago for B is $599... so yes, they did rip you off. That being said, even the $599 figure is rarely paid as most dealers have coupons. Shop the web sites of your local dealers to find a coupon and if you don't want to take it elsewhere, ask if they will honor the coupon. I lucked out, my regular dealer had a 15% off coupon otherwise around here no one really discounts these.

To the point of other posters, B is just an oil change plus 3 things... 2 air filters and a brake flush. In the past I was able to just do an oil change service and avoid brake service as it was totally unnecessary (fluid clear and clean, full and low mileage) ... yes I know it was a one year thing, but seriously - in the past who has flushed brakes at one year?

Why are you getting a B service after 1 year? Isn't the B service after 2 years? The B-Service doesn't actually include anything more than a brake fluid inspection, but then separately the maintenance manual says do the brake flush every 2 years. So why would you be getting a brake flush after 1 year?

The first Service A is due at 12 months or 10,000 miles, then every 24 months or 20,000 miles.
The first Service B is due at 24 months or 20,000 miles, then every 24 months or 20,000 miles.

Even if you're doing 20K miles or more a year, you still wouldn't do the brake flush more than every 2 years since it's time based and not part of the A or B.

Yes, brake fluid is replaced after two years. Brake fluid shouldn't ever look dirty or discolored. It's replaced because of an invisible condition: absorbed water. Brake fluid is hygroscopic; it incorporates humidity from the air. This does two bad things. It lowers the temperature at which it is no longer effective and it causes corrosion of master cylinder and caliper parts. Not replacing the brake fluid because it looks good is a bad idea.

When the do brake fluid inspection, they aren't just supposed to look at it, they are suppose to check its water content with a special device.

Amazon Amazon

I seriously doubt most shops use that device though.

No, they just replace it every two years.

Replacement is spec'd at every 2 years, but they should test it with the A service.

All they do is check the level and look for a leak if it's low (assuming the pads are ok). I've never heard of them testing the fluid.

BTW, the latest "maintenance schedules" are a joke. They don't make public the intervals for anything anymore. The booklet that comes with my '19 just says transmission fluid changes, diff oil changes, spark plug changes, etc., etc. should be done at the recommended intervals. They don't say what that is for anything. This new approach really sucks.

Yeah the owners manuals don’t even show the fuse layouts anymore. I am a big DIY’er and do all the work on all my cars from Jags to Lotuses to Rovers to Lambos. My cars are more reliable than the average for the model because I keep them out of the hands of “pros.” So it’s annoying when a manufacturer has the attitude that you should never touch your own car.

I agree with 2020GLC300 100%. These guys are overpriced chevy mechanics. I don't trust them to do anything correctly. If it's something that you need a special tool for, then that's a different story. I ended up doing all the maintenance on my 2015 AUDI Q5 TDI not ever owning a diesel with no problems and still have the software to help the person I sold it to. I suggest to anyone that has a garage to learn to do these things yourself. I know what I do to the vehicle. I could tell you how these "experts" left my Audi when I had them do the first two "servicings". To the OP, yes you got taken, lesson learned.
