MBUX "Hey Mercedes"

Does anyone on this forum know whether or not "Hey Mercedes" in the new MBUX system can be re/programmed to say something like "Hey Bob" or "Hey Susan" or something like that?

Does the new MBUX in the GLC have the ability to display the navigation map in full screen mode on the cockpit display. Like the one in the video, skip to 1:59

I don't think so. I've had '20 GLC a month now and can't find any settings to do that. I also recall a review of the model and the same determination by the moto-journalist, but I think that may have come from a M-B engineer. Have to refrain from mentioning the car brand or you will be repeatedly shouting "cancel" at the car.

I already had several instances that i had to yell cancel. I know the A class has it and it wasn't just a beta version of MBUX. The A class also lets you change the speedometer to a different screen. I was wondering if it was because the A class has a full rectangular screen, but the image on the display is always rounded in the shape of the GLC instrument cluster.

Maybe a future update. Until then, loving MBUX and the new GLC!

The configurable digital gauge cluster is an option on the GLC, which I don't have. The center data display between the analog tach and speedo does allow for some Nav info, though. I love the steering wheel touchpad controls for the MBUX. Very easy to control both the big display and the instrument display in front of the wheel. I haven't used the voice control much, as the wheel controls work so well. I have not found a way to disable the touchpad on the center console. I don't use it much and have inadvertently changed things by accidentally brushing across it. I have found little to complain about and much to be impressed with regarding this vehicle.

Our 2020 immediately wakes up to just saying Mercedes. You absolutely don't have to say hey first. This is annoying. And it also mistakes many combinations of words for Mercedes when people are talking in the car.

I hate all voice-based systems because I am one of those people that none of them can understand what I am saying. Something about the tone of my voice. Humans have no problem, but it's the same with Siri and Echo. If I would take the time to figure out if the voice activation could be turned off altogether on MBUX, I would do that.

My dealer told me you can turn it off if you want (I was worried about my kids torturing me with it the way they do with Siri and Alexa).

You can turn off the "Hey Mercedes" feature which would then just require pressing the switch on the steering wheel to activate the command.

You cannot change the command prompt unfortunately.

If you purchase the 12.3" display option, it is not the same as the A Class, GLE, GLS, CLA, etc. therefore you cannot put the full screen map on this display like you can on those other cars.

Has anyone open sunroof with “Hey Mercedes “ command? It worked when they went threw the car upon delivery. He open the sunshade as well. But won’t do it again. Says that option is not available. 😔

A gaggle of MB's
MBUX can open/close sun-shade - cannot MBUX open/close sunroof .... Fed's won't allow MBUX to control seat position or sunroof - prevent hand/foot chopping.

That is not true. It does the command on GLB’s.

I have a new MLB but my problem is I don't know what to say. The sun Shade opens but you have to have the right "command words". They are not in the manual. I wish there was a list f commands it does besides the ones in the manual.

You don't have to yell at her when "Hey Mercedes" response is unwanted, just tap the phone "end call" button, right side of steering wheel. I found this out after almost yelling myself hoarse.

Brand new 2021 GLC and "Hey Mercedes" does not activate voice control. The toggle on the steering wheel does. Somehow it does not listen or react to the call. Anyone experienced this?

I think there is a setting for this -- in the MBUX system, go to Settings > System, then look for the voice response item (Linguatronic is the Mercedes trade-name they often use). Make sure Hey Mercedes is turned on, and also the option for you to talk over it (which means it's listening when speaking). The latter makes it easy to interrupt it with a follow-up / new command.

Right. Both of those check marks are on and still no reply to the call term.

I am told that when working the word 'Mercedes' alone triggers the reply. If that is the case it's an unfortunate choice, because there are people named Mercedes and one may be talking about Mercedes. it may be best if it does not work.

I assume that when you use the steering wheel button, it listens and responds to your request (just making sure the microphone is working). If that's the case, go to your dealer and ask to speak with their technology expert and get them to figure it out. It's not the service dept (though the service receptionist may be able to direct you).

Correct, The steering wheel toggle starts the voice agent and the agent works. Dealer tech expert? Does he use some OBD2 tool to do that or is it a combination of button stokes to release the agent? I wonder if MB did that to stop 'Mercedes' to intervene unwittingly?

How can I personalize "Hey Mercedes"

Hello,
I apologize if this has been answered elsewhere, but I cannot find the answer on these threads. I have a 2021 GLE and I want to change "Hey Mercedes" to a different name like "Hey, Buddy" or "Hey, IsforHorses." Thanks.

Don’t think it can be changed. Look for the “Face” icon. My 2023 has it on the right hand controls of the steering wheel under the “home” icon. Click it and it starts the MBUX Voice Assistant without using “hey Mercedes “. That way you don’t have to say anything. Would think the GLE should have an icon to activate the voice control.
