Rear Gate Switch in Driver Door

I recently purchased a 2020 GLC. The switch in the drivers door opens the rear gate, but it doesn't close it (either when we pull or push on the switch) ...is this how its designed to work? Or is there a setting somewhere in MBUX that needs to be turned on to enable the close function? Appreciate any help on this.

On my 2018 GLC the rear hatch opens when I pull the switch and goes down when I push the switch.

Engine (or accessory) must be on. Mine will auto-open with the driver's door switch but switch must be held down until tailgate fully closes.

Thank you....that did work!...the door switch will open the rear gate with the Ignition ON or OFF. However to the close it, the IGNITION MUST BE ON (Accessory or Engine on position) .This is different from my other vehicles....they keep adding more safety features

How is this a safety feature? Just curious.
On my wife's Lexus you can close the tailgate with a single press to the button even if the car is off.

It is a safety feature that makes it less likely to close the hatch on someone. In order to close it from the driver's door, where you might forget to check before you press the button, you must make a conscious decision by turning on the ignition. Lexus figures no one makes mistakes.

That is to prevent you to accidentally bump into the switch.
