Hello team,
Hope all are doing well. I have had 2009 C300 4Matic sedan (bought used in 2011) and thinking of getting a used 2018 GLC 300 4Matic. However, just want to get an idea of maintenance/service costs compared to a C300. I have done some math and over the ownership of 9 years, I have spent about CA $1000/year on maintenance for my car. Will GLC cost around the same or more? If it is too much to maintain, I can think of an NX 300. Please share your thoughts. Thank you.

It should not cost significantly more, but Mercedes is not known for the most durable four-cylinders in the world. If maintenance costs are a big deal to you, the NX might be the better bet.

Thank you for the input. That is the factor I should decide about. Even for C300, I feel that the amount I have spent on an annual basis is high, but do understand that is sort of the norm for any German cars. Thanks again.Originally Posted by LILBENZ230

German vehicles are usually more expensive to maintain than other brands.
The 2009 C-Class and the recent model GLC are not comparable. Different platforms from different eras. The GLC is a relatively new platform. The C-Class has a comparatively longer lineage and history behind it.
In my view the base model GLC will be more expensive to maintain over its lifetime of 150k miles than a comparable base model C-Class.

costs will be comparable ($1k/yr). I did the math based on local dealer prices including 10years /120k miles and it was right around $12k not including tires and other repairs. Originally Posted by macsp

Thank you. I initially thought that as well, but knowing it is a compact SUV, it may cost bit higher as others have indicated. Originally Posted by Camaroguy72

To get a rough idea of maintenance, just look at the prices of the extended warranty and maintenance plans, then add the cost of tires. Maintenance gets way expensive as the car ages, but with a new car the owner eats the depreciation. I had BMW 3 series cars for a few years and they would cost roughly $4K-$5K per year all included (depreciation, maintenance, insurance, tires) to drive about $20K miles per year. I now have an Acura RDX and it is so cheap compared to the BMWs, it's not even a concern. Plus I have not been driving as much.

ExploreIn Canada, it appears that you can add Prepaid Maintenance Select after 25,000km. For a GLC, it's C$500 per year if you opt for the 4 or 5 service plans (C$1,999 for 4 services and C$2,499 for 5 services). Note they quote the same price for the C and the GLC. https://www.mercedes-benz.ca/content...ct_2019_EN.pdf
So, pure recommended / scheduled maintenance is C$500, and you'll also need tires/brakes from somewhere else. You must have a few good European auto repair shops somewhere in the GTA, so I would explore them when it's time for brakes -- I am in a NYC suburb and got brakes for my SL for ~$1,000 vs. ~$2,000 from the dealer (MB parts, pads and rotors, all 4 corners).
Also, if the dealer really follows this schedule, I would probably change the air filter at the 40km / 120km internal myself -- here in the US, it's at every B service (which is also every 2 years for us). I haven't done it on the GLC, so I don't know how complicated it is (sometimes MB puts in them in housings which just take time to disassemble).
