2020 GLC 2.0 Turbo

So last Sunday, me and a few other friends had a drag race. Safely, on a track nearby.
I was in my M2 40i one friend in ecoboost mustang, one friend in a glc 300.
I thought the glc would lose terribly.
It didn't.
It couldn't keep up with the m2 but managed to (somehow) beat the mustang to about 85 miles an hour, went neck and neck, and somehow beat the mustang. friend laughs, says told you so. Stats below.
m2: 3.0L I6 turbo, 355 HP, 369 lb-ft, RWD, 6M
mustang: 2.3L twin turbo I4, 310 HP, 326 lb-ft, RWD, 10A
glc: 2.0L turbo I4, 255 HP, 273 lb-ft, AWD, 9A.
It somehow can beat a mustang, every other car in the segment.
MB is also heavier than the Mustang and the M2.
So how is this possible?

Race went only to 100 mph. Road was slightly wet but mustang got good launch.

Haha . Car and Driver, as well as MotorTrend showed 0-60 times faster on the GLC. That mustang guy is a better driver than me.

I can't speak for your test, but AWD makes a significant difference to acceleration, especially in the wet.

I know. I am a track driver. However, if you look up glc faster than mustang, it actually comes up.
1. Glc is quicker up to 100
2. MB underrated hp and torque.
3. Mustang quicker after 100 mph ish

For a simple drag race, the AWD makes all the difference.

2014 Mercedes E350 4matic Wagon, 2018 Fiat 124 Spyder Lusso manual, 2005 Acura TSX manual
I’m not a huge fan of Mercedes transmission tuning but it does make the cars wicked quick off the line. I swear nothing can do 0-30 as fast as my dads V6 E350. It’s instant. It because the gear doesn’t fully engage, it just holds the car at the perfect rpm like a CVT. And then the gear fully engages at which point it slows acceleration. So the GLC was probably held at the perfect rpm with full turbo while the Mustang, with more natural transmission tuning, was struggling with traction and lag.

i don't know about your e350, but the glc is nothing like a cvt. First of all, the glc's new trans is not slushy or slow. quick shifting made easy. It isn't a PDK, but it serves the purpose. GLC revs nicely.

Any of you have a Stelvio Ti or a Macan S? I would like to know which is the fastest.

I know it's not a PDK, but my VW's DSG is one of the reasons I switched to the GLC... desperately wanted a classic torque converter gearbox (a good one) after the godawful DSG.

Ironic since the whole reason I bought the VW was the DSG. I know the PDK is meant to be unique, but I've driven a GLA250, A250 and B200 and the dual clutch gearbox was a deal breaker in all of them.

PDK is probably the best dct. However, it is still a dct, meaning ugly time in inching traffic, and still not feeling great otherwise. You can't buy a macan without pdk and hence that is the only choice. I totally agree with you man. Torque converters on manuals. Save the manuals. I have either a torque converter or manual on all the cars I have owned. No cvts, dcts, or any other nonsense.

When I was looking for another daily driver earlier this year, I had a few must haves.
1. Manual, or torque converter.
2. Good exhaust note.
3. Somewhat affordable (20000-30000)
Contenders were the civic si, mini 2 door hatch, he veloster n
none offer dct yet. Bought the mini, but some turned me off.
2.0 turbo noises are too strange. They sound weak and puny. Most of the time.
