USB extension cable for CarPlay?
Had one USB cable (micro-USB to USB extension?) in center console upon delivery. Tested yesterday evening near wireless chargeing pad & worked. Found two USB connectors inside center console.
I'd like getting a couple more of these - Believe the part # is: A 177 820 29 01
On Monroney label cost was $20.
Thanks - thoughts?

Only the one connector in your center console near the charger works for CarPlay - if you look closely it has a different icon next to the port. The two in the center storage are just for charging although they may work for media playback - definitely not CarPlay.

So, that's a USB-C to USB adapter. You don't necessarily need that adapter. What I did was pick up a standard USB-C to lightning adapter from Apple to connect my phone directly without needing any adapter... and they sell them long or short. I also picked up a USB-C to Apple Watch mag connector so that I can use one of the ports to charge my Apple Watch while driving. :-).

That’s why I had the dealers provide two Oem cables during purchase agreement .one for wife’s CarPlay and the other to charge my phone at the same while using wife’s phone for CarPlay.
plus being hidden in the center console looks so clean.

Try a different cable...not a small adapter but a media cable, then hook your Apple cable to the media cable....the passenger side port is for Carplay
The dealer provided me with two cables but I’m sure you can get something similar off Amazon that will work.

I plugged one end into my phone and one end into the charging port on the right inside the center armrest storage area and CarPlay works. No adapter needed although I use that too with a different cable sometimes since it came with the car. The only reason I mentioned what I did about CarPlay working from the center armrest storage location is because dalazernet/Eric seemed to be saying that CarPlay doesn't work from that location. But it does work for me. And it sounds like it does for you too.

I guess we're both saying different versions of the same thing, but this is what I bought right after I got my GLC in late July:

i’m glad your cable works for you for CarPlay and yes I just wanted to reiterate that is the correct port for CarPlay and it works for me quite well for other people running into this situation.

Of the two charging ports in the center storage/armrest, the one on the right does work for me for Apple CarPlay. I had also purchased the Apple USB-C to lightning adapter (you noted it in a separate post) right after I got my GLC at the end of July (even though the vehicle came with the Mercedes adapter others have mentioned), I don't know know if it's because I'm using the Apple cable, or if it's because I don't have the wireless charging pad option, or some other reason altogether.....but CarPlay definitely does work for me using the port on the right inside the armrest.

FWIW, other USB-C to Lightning adapters work fine too. I have a cheap Walmart (ONN Brand) cable that I use since it's black (rather than white) and better matches the interior. I have the white Apple OEM USB-C to Lightning cable in the center console as a back-up, but the inexpensive WalMart cable works fine. I have the wireless charging option, so my cable is viable (as opposed to being in the center console).
I also have two 6-inch USB-C to USB-A extension cables in the center console, one of which has a 256GB USB thumb drive attached -- with my entire music collection from iTunes stored on it (something like 400-500 CDs). So I have my entire music collection in my car, which is nice to have. The other port is used for charging another device, as needed.
Silly rant: I did get a little frustrated over the weekend adjusting tire pressures. I have a 12V compressor that I can plug into the trunk and get to both rear tires. I didn't realize there wasn't a 12V cigarette lighter adapter in the center console, except under the dash on the passenger side. I started on the driver side, and looked behind the flip-up door then below the climate control, then in the center console, and couldn't find the right port to plug into -- then remembered there is a 12V cigarette lighter jack under the passenger-side foot well.
MB and BMW always do things a little differently, but I was pretty surprised there wasn't a standard 12V outlet up front and center somewhere -- kind of unusual. Yeah. definitely a First World Problem, I know...
