You can get update using the Merceds Me Portal

https://www.me.mercedes-benz.com/pas...rcedes-me.html

Use this to manually download the files you want onto a USB, and then plug into vehicle and upload..

the Mercedes site will format the USB for you, get one that is at least 32mb, if you want to download everything

.

Note: The voice recognition data of your navigation system can only be updated via a manual map update.

The map for your home region gets pushed to the car and updated automatically. You can configure your home region in the portal. The other regions have to be manually updated if you need them via USB or SD card. The voice recognition updates can only be manually updated. The web portal also shows you which version you have installed and which regions are up to date. There's an email that goes out when new map updates become available and also a message in the app. The last time I've done a complete manual update. It takes a bit of time between the map updates coming out and the home region getting pushed to the car automatically.

I like the updated app so far. It restored the ability to send destinations to the car from Google Maps and Yelp, but for some reason it's not working from Apple Maps, so hopefully they'll fix that. I also don't see a picture of my car and instead get a generic picture of a covered car. I had the same issue with the old app and also the web portal. It was working briefly in the old app and the web portal. One of the big new things supposedly is that the app gets much more frequent updates and I was finally able to open tickets for issues I'm finding, along with the ability to attach screenshots. Contacting support from the old app never worked. Time will tell how quickly they'll respond and fix the issues. Also looks like some of the features are still missing like Personalization, which also never quite worked right in the old app.

Thanks - what format for USB or SD card? My Mercedes me also shows the vehicle with tonneau cover. Appreciate the feedback.

I'm using NTFS, but I believe exFAT, FAT and APFS work as well.

I did a manual update of the U.S. Before I started I got a good tip from my service department (they suggested hooking up a trickle charger so there is NO connectivity drop outs or issues)

A trickle charger is not really necessary. It takes only about 20 minutes for a full update, but you can also just start the update and leave the SD card/USB stick connected and then turn off the car. It will pause the update and continue next time you drive the car and will pause again when you park. It'll take longer that way, but eventually the entire update completes.

I just was explaining my MB service department suggests this, and they do it on every Mercedes-Benz they grab map updates for.

Understood. However, the map updates they do are different from the OTA and website updates we get now in the newer models. The older map updates took longer, because they installed the full maps while the OTA/web updates as far as I know are delta updates only containing the changes, so they take less time. I've done 4 updates on my car so far. Two automatic and two manual. Hooking it up to a trickle charger is certainly safer, especially if you don't know the current charge state of the battery, but I can tell you with a properly charged battery there is no need and as opposed to the dealership which has to wait for the update to complete, we have the option to do the update in the background while going about our daily business. The automatic updates for example take place in the background by default. It downloads the update while the car is running, pausing it when you park and resuming it again afterwards, and once the download completes the installation also takes place in the background while the car is running and pauses while parked. Once it's done a message is displayed to let you know that a new map update was installed.

i have a question. I performed a manual update and was promoted with “successful update”. In addition I get an error message relating to the USB DRIVE. Is there a special way to eject the usb drive?

Not that I'm aware of, but I've been using an SD card.

Following successful installation, disconnect the storage medium from the multimedia system and restart the multimedia system if you are prompted to do so.

Your dealer can help if you have issues.

Just a heads up. MY-20 vehicles and newer require customer to update the maps on their own. MB does not provide this service for free anymore and will be billed for labor.

True, but I see that as a bonus. I dont need to wait until a service, and as I understand it we keep getting updates even after the 3 year warranty runs out.
