I notice coming up to a stop and just as the vehicle comes to a stop and when it shifts down to 1 from 2 the vehicle slightly lunges. Anyone have that "feature"?
Also, I have noticed the vehicle does not always downshift to 1st at a stop but stays in 2nd. Any ideas?
I've had very occasional very rough downshift from 2 to 1.
Haven't done anything about it.
Mine always changes to 1st at a complete stop and also on start up....though others say theirs always starts in 2nd (dependant on drive mode selected )

I drive in "C". The first 1,000 miles I had it it always dropped down to 1st at a stop. Now in "C" it occasionally drops to 1st and occasionally drops to 2nd. 2nd does not seem correct even in "C" with this vehicle. My AMG does it in "C" but that makes sense with a large TTV8 and it is consistent.

I have a 300 4matic which I have in C all the time. When I start the car, it is in 1st, but it never goes to 1st ever again. I get second gear starts and don't mind. S and S+ will cancel this setting and always go to first.

It does NOT go into first gear in comfort mode. It starts and stops in 2nd....for comfort. If you are in sport it will start and downshift back to 1st. I have a 2018 also and yes I notice it dropping down into 1st when in sport and sometimes a bit jerky. I leave it in comfort for the best comfortable ride and it shifts nicer and properly. If conditions need I then switch into sport to maneuver some traffic or nice roads, but comfort is the best ride and drivablity under normal conditions.

Interesting. Mine dropped to 1st on C every time up till a week ago when it would drop to 2 occasionally in C. Currently it might drop to 1st for a few stops then drop to 2nd for a few stops throughout the day. All in C.
I guess we will see what happens at the dealer. Maybe they will do an adaptation of some sort. I know the adaptation greatly improved my E63S' transmission.

If your dropping to 1st in comfort or eco somethings up. Sport equals first gear takeoffs, which can be jumpy and jerky depending on how your accelerating. My S550 acts the same way. Sometimes I put it in sport on the highway to navigate traffic, and when I get off my exit and stop at a light, I am reminded as I pull away from the light. They have improvements in programming all the time, I am sure thats all it is. Good luck
Update: Did a tranny adaptation and fixed it. The trans shifts down to 1st in "C" as it did before. The dealer confirmed in "C" it should shift down to 1st. The lunge from 2nd to 1st on downshift is now gone and smooth.
Maybe different countries do it differently. My GLC never starts in 1st gear unless I'm in sports and my VW Tiguan does exactly the same thing with its DSG gearbox. All the Euro cars I driven in Australia do this for fuel efficiency and comfort reasons, but apparently not every country based on your experience and the forum here: https://mbworld.org/forums/glc-class...-1st-gear.html
Oof. If you are in US, then it means you should have the same as mine, which does not go to 1. The dealers don't know anything.
No there is more to it. The main issue is the 2-1 shift regardless in C or S. The other is there is an odd downshift behavior which feels like it will drag in a gear as it down shifts. Additionally, it will occasionally do a 2-1 slam into gear if on a hill.

1st is a very short gear. Are you sure its going down to 1st. You would be coming to a stop, its so slow. Even if you started off in second to get 1st you would be flooring the car. Also if you were in sport it would not downshift to 1st unless you were coming to a stop. Sound like its flaring or hanging in gear also. That can happen on a hard acceleration then just let off the pedal, sometime a trans will hang?
Correction. I have found the issue in "C" not in "S" as I stated above. I found the downshift to 1st in "S" works well, the downshift to 1st in "C" does not. As others have stated it seems odd mine downshifts to 1st in "C" and might be the issue. The slight drag on higher gear downs shifts is odd and was eliminated after the tranny adaptation and has since come back. I will push the conversation regarding the shift to 1st in "C" Saturday.
This basically confirms what you guys are saying. It does not specifically say in "C" it leaves in 2nd but it does not say 1st like it does in "S" or "S+"
