Do I need New Tires for 2017 GLC300 AMG

Hello Friends. My 2017 GLC300 AMG Coupe has 7,000 miles on it. Do I need new tires? I received an e-mail reminder from MB reminding me to get New Tires because I purchased it in 2017. Only 7,000 miles on the tires and still in good shape. Live in California. Also recently purchased 7 year ELW for my car. Thank you in advance for your input.

Why? If the tires are in good condition, there is no need to replace

Thank you so much for your reply. I was under the impression with the ELW, the recommended schedule for tire replacement (4 years) must be followed or it will void the ELW? Many Thanks again.

It shouldn't void anything

At 6 years you will want to replace regardless the tread left. Look on the tire for the date manufactured and add 6 years to that. The date shows in week # and year #.

That's a smart (and safe) practice. Ozone and UV degrades tires.

The most degradation happens if the tires aren't used. A tire in motion moves the Carbon Black (additive) throughout the rubber compound. As it reaches the surface, it protects against UV and O3, and other oxidation. In time that oxidation consumes the Carbon Black on the surface and the rubber itself begins to deteriorate. Flexing the tire, warming it up, will put a fresh supply of protective Carbon Black on the surface.

good to know...

but the OP’s tires are just over 3 years old

just saying...

And for the most part, generally speaking if you are driving an average amount your tires will need replacement anyways at 6 years, they will be more or less worn by then...

Uh huh. Then a follow-on post said "If the tires are in good condition, there is no need to replace."
So I clarified. Not all things are as they appear.
just sayin.....

The need to replace a tire because of age has not been technically defined.
The DOT, Michelin and Continental Tire all say 10 years.

Hi. Read Post #7 in this thread for clarification about tire degradation.

I'm not a tire expert but, your #7 post seems logical. Use or lose it.
I'm sure when the DOT, Michelin and Continental stated tires have a lifespan of 10 years they meant if the tires were rolling on a vehicle on a regular basis versus just sitting for extended periods of time.

I am not a tire expert, but maybe there is a time for degradation in performance and further degradation till it becomes a safety issue.
