Squeaking/Creaking From Rear of Vehicle
Ive attempted to diagnose this myself. I’ve removed the factory spare tire, the cargo floor board, folded down the rear seats, etc… and the noise is still there. The drivers side does not do this. I’ve even tried to back up with the rear hatch opened to eliminate the door seals on that as a source.
Anyone else have a similar issue?
At the second dealer, the advisor even suggested not doing anything at all because opening up the roof underlining might make the problem worse This from Mercedes Benz?
Next thing I did was to let my son drive the car while I sat at the back seat and listened to the source of the rattling and determined the exact spot where it’s coming from. Then I went to another dealer and explained the whole situation. When I picked up my car later in the afternoon, rattling problem was resolved. Btw, the 2022 GLC loaner from the dealer had the same rattle at the same location as my car. This points to a QC issue at the factory.
Hopefully if you do what I did, your issue may also be resolved to your satisfaction.
2 questions:-
1. have you tried having someone standing outside and observe the bottom rear of the car to see if some part of the undercarriage hits/scratches the kerb of your driveway or a speed bump?
2. when this squeaking noise happens, does it matter if you back up really really slow? Does the noise get a little louder if you back up a little faster?
There’s nothing scraping as the driveway bump is just a few inches. Nothing seems apparent from the outside in terms of noise. If I go over the bump really
slow, then I can kind of avoid hearing it. Faster speeds make it more apparent.
At this point I’m not sure if it’s the suspension even since so many parts have been replaced. It could be something inside. I had thought it could be the sunroof seals but the loaner I had that made the same noise didn’t have a sunroof at all so that theory is out.

Hope you find that pesky irritant.
