Inductive charger in console cupholder spot

Just got a 2022 GLC300, and it lacks an inductive charger for my iPhone. In fact, there is not even a flat surface to rest the phone on. I mentioned this to the sales guy and he told me the cup holder rack in the front center console lifts out, leaving that space for other stuff. That's great! I noticed that the rubber base pad also pulls out, and there is a small rectangular hole under it. So, I'm wondering if it's possible to get in there and run a wire somewhere to power an inductive charging pad. There is also a 12VDC cigarette style outlet in there, so worst case I could use that to power one. But it would be cool to just have one wired in like it was designed to be there.

Any ideas?

Actually I found several on Amazon. They all say they work up to 2021 model years, but I found a review that says it works in a 2022. Hopefully it will, if not I can return it.

I’ve been looking for one also for my 2022 GLC. I love to hear what you find and your success with installation.

I have ordered two on Amazon. Both are listed as working through 2021 GLC300 models, but one reviewer said one of them works in his GLC300 2022. One has an exposed USB port, and the other does not. I'm hoping the first one works. I'll post an update mid next week after they come in.

Update on my 2022 GLC300 wireless phone charger issue, I ordered two from Amazon. Both the units I ordered have arrived. They are:

Amazon Amazon

Amazon Amazon

The first one is a Sighill, and it has two USB charging ports, an A and a C. The other does not have additional USB ports. Both of these devices say they are for 2015 to 2021 GLC 300 SUVs. I actually posted a question about the first one, asking if it would work in a 2022 model and received two answers saying it would not. Well, it fits nicely. It took all of two minutes to remove the ashtray and install this. It does not look perfect, but it looks great. I'll post some pics later this week. It does charge my iPhone 8.

I didn't try to install the second one since the first works so well.

Next step is a WiFi Carplay dongle. That should not be necessary, the SUV has WiFi built into it, but for whatever reason Mercedes didn't enable wireless Carplay.

So, the inductive charger works, and the wireless Carplay dongle works. But, putting the phone in that part of the car apparently makes the phone unable to get a good GPS signal, so Waze gets screwy. I have an iPhone 8, so maybe a newer phone works better, but this is annoying.

I wonder if that's why Mercedes didn't include wireless car play. I would love to have wireless car play, but I didn't even think about the GPS issues when the phone is in that space there. When the phone is plugged in, it can use the car gps which is probably more reliable than a phone inside a car. Makes sense.

I didn't know it would use the cars GPS when plugged in. As I get more experience with this I see it's a marginal GPS signal. The first few days I was playing with it we had a lot of rain. I see it works better with clear skies. If I put the phone in so that the top of the phone is closest to the cabin it works better as well. But I'm keeping the wire in the console for just in case.
