Main Battery Replacement

My wife’s 2016 GLC 300 needs a new main battery. I thought I would buy a new one and replace it myself, but have three questions:

1) Will removal mess with stored settings? Is this a real concern or just a matter of redoing preferences?
2) Any reason to get an OEM battery from MB, or is a similar battery from a parts store sufficient?
3) I believe it is located under the shroud under the hood on the passenger side. Is that correct?

Thanks!

1) If you're worried about losing settings, use some device to keep the power to your radio while the battery is disconnected.
2) No, you don't have to go to the dealer for a battery. Do the research and get one of the same type, capacity and CCA.
3) Yes, It is located on the passenger side under the shroud in the engine compartment.
You have to have the new battery "coded" after replacing it. This can be done by a number of scan tools, I use a Foxwell NT530.

There is no need to code new battery in this car.
I have an WIS and there is a step for it but not for this model.

Thanks for the replies. What does coding do?

Coding a new battery tells the car the battery is new and to forget the history of charging. It will then monitor the new one from a blank history and help ensure the lifetime and performance of the newly installed battery.

The way I read that WIS instruction the exceptions are for various versions of the 205. 253 requires battery registration.

One thing to be aware of, is if you buy a Mercedes battery through parts and have it installed by the dealer, it will have a free 2-year, non prorated warranty, including installation and whatever processes are required. Parts and labor. Any Dealer.
