My opinion on the face-lifted GLC..

Hello all, I just bought a 2023 GLC300 4Matic to replace my 2021 RR Velar and I’m simply not impressed when comparing it to my other GLC300 4Matic and my GLC43 Coupe of which are both pre-facelift. I would love for you guys to hear me out. Yes, I realize a lot of these complaints are minor however they do add up.

I purposefully bought this GLC without a sunroof and a few other options because it’s staying at my Miami residence and I don’t need the extra heat getting in and I only drive this car about a month or two out of the whole year. It’s very common in Miami for there to be $100k+ maseratti’s and what not without sunroofs due to the sun.

Firstly, the infotainment system… I have the MBUX system in my 21’ GLE53 and I don’t have a problem with it besides the fact that it doesn’t have a rotary dial like my other cars have. The rotary dial is a huge deal to me, you don’t have to reach as far to select something on the screen and it’s essentially muscle memory.

In the interior layout of the GLC, the screen is too far away to use it as a touchscreen and the MBUX touchpad is way too sensitive and barely works. I found that the touchpad on the steering wheel is SOMEWHAT helpful however it’s not the best.

I also realized that while my car was in for an oil change a few years ago and I had a 2020 GLC as a loaner, I could change the MBUX screens theme (progressive, classic and sport) but for some reason my 2023 GLC doesn’t have any options and it can only be set to classic?

Another example of why the 2023 feels cheap compared to the pre-facelift, the top shelf in the glove box is made out of a cheap plastic, but in my pre-facelift GLC300 and GLC43 Coupe, it’s covered in a soft felt material.

Also, for some reason mercedes changed the design of the black ash wood on the refresh? I don’t understand why they made it more simple and less detailed, it doesn’t look as luxurious. I have this wood in my new 23’ GLC as well as my GLC43 Coupe and there’s a noticeable difference between the two.

I will say, the MB-Tex leather feels a lot better in the 23’ GLC compared to my 17 GLC’s MB-Tex for some reason but that’s really my only positive remark on this new GLC.

I also realized the dashboard isn’t stitched on top, I know that’s an option but it doesn’t look as good, but since it is an option, I’ll let it slide.

The engine does feel slightly different in the 23’ compared to 17’ but it’s not too noticeable at all. I will say that the auto stop/start is much smoother in the 23’ and less noticeable than it is in my 17’.

Overall, I like the car and I know I am essentially nit picking- but I would love to hear your guys’ opinions.

2022 GLC 300 4Matic
I’m a little confused as I don’t believe the ‘23 GLC has been released yet. The ‘23 should have a complete interior redesign with MBUX 2.0 (the larger vertical screen).

I am assuming your new GLC is a ‘22 model in which case I completely agree with you about the radio. It is way to far away to use as a touch screen and without the dial, the radio presets are much less easy to scroll through. I have found it somewhat helpful where you can change the next track button < > on the center touchpad to “present view.” This will allow you to pull up your preset stations on any screen and swipe through them without looking.

it’s a 2023, i believe the X254 will be a 2024+ model not 2023.

I as well am confused, as ALL these things are usually discovered PRIOR to purchasing a vehicle and while test driving it.
I also realize you must not like the '23, as you still have to tint the taillights for it to look good.

Interesting. There seems to be some discrepancies as to how mb is classifying them with some x253 being 2023 and x254 being 2023 as well. Quite confusing imo.

I guess the problem was so many people prefer touch screen in cars in general and that MB doesn't want to redesign the whole interior for the facelift X253 GLC as they would had saved it for the X254, so they just swapped the screen to touch probably also knowing that it isn't the easiest to use and hope customers aren't too irritated about it as they got what they want (touchscreen).. sort of.

I wonder if there is a way to change the trackpad sensitivity? At least during the COMAND touchpad days, it was able to be changed.

I heard the MBUX 2.0 NTG 7.0 is when they removed many designs (or more like they made it less customizable at least), it doesn't make sense for them to remove it on your GLC during model year changes if it is not a new generation, you have MBUX original so NTG 6.0, I wonder if there are options required to enable that for some reason?

Interesting observation on the wood, I don't think many people will notice if you didn't point it out.

Yup there were engine changes M274 became M264 for the GLC 300, the latter engine is more refined reported by many forum members here and the more smooth in general when cruising.

Yup it indeed is the "coupe" as the X254 (C254) will arrive as a 2024 model.

yes there is a way to change the trackpad sensitivity, and i did so the best i could and yet it’s still odd.

There seems to be quite a bit of confusion in this thread.

The only way that OP has a 2023 GLC is if he purchased a GLC Coupe (C253). The latest refreshed GLC (X254) will in fact be a 2023 model and is expected to begin shipping late April or early May and will NOT be a 2024 model.
The model run of the SUV body (X253) ended with the 2022 MY but the Coupe (C253) continued for MY23.

Ah nevermind I don't know why I included "X" when I meant the coupe. I did put the correct one in brackets (C254) not sure what I was trying to express, thanks for helping us clear the confusion my previous post casued.

Sorry, I didn't mean to quote you in my response.

To clear everything up, the standard GLC SUV (X253) entered production for MY15 and ran through MY22. It was facelifted for MY20.
The GLC Coupe (C253) entered production for MY16 and is currently running through MY23. It was also facelifted for MY20.
The new GLC SUV (X254) will be introduced early Q2 of 2023 and will be a MY23 vehicle.

OP the wood you have in your car is not the Black Ash wood. That is the "Natural Grain Grey Oak Wood" that is in your MY22 GLC. The Natural Grain Black Ash Wood was available for MY22 and was paired with Aluminum door trim. The trim was not changed, you simply do not have the same trim optioned as your pre-refresh GLC 43.

The screen is a far reach because it was never designed/intended to be a touchscreen, but support for it was added later on due to the advancements made for MBUX 1.0 compared to COMMAND. Not sure why your sensitivity on the trackpad would be highly different compared to your GLE. I had both a refresh GLC and GLE and noticed no different in infotainment inputs.

As for the glovebox, yes its cost cutting, but its hardly a big deal honestly.

For the gauges modes, I am not 100% sure if it was changed for MY22, but try changing the theme on your gauge cluster. Use the left steering wheel trackpad to select different designs, the infotainment screen should adjust with it.

True, thanks for pointing that out I didn't even realized that. That explains the differences for you OP.

Thank you for clearing this up. The reason for my original confusion was that OP said they purchased a 2023, but both GLC's in the driveway picture are models with the SUV body, not the coupe.
