Most are aware of the ineffective picture on the reversing camera during low light conditions/night , at least on 2018 and earlier models and not just GLC but pretty much all MB models. Some have said it can be fixed by replacing some of the rear lights with more powerful aftermarket lamps. I have beaten it to death with my MB advisor and they simply wont give you any option. Has anyone fixed the problem on a 2018 or earlier GLC300 and if so please provide details.

Can't you just turn up the brightness?
If you mean dial up the brightness of the display , I can , but the picture it self has so many dark and black areas that it just ends up similar to increasing the contrast, and does not light up the dark areas.
The picture is fine during daylight conditions, so the consensus is that the rear of the car is simply not lit up enough for the camera's light sensitivity.

Hmmm I wonder if you can swap the licence plate lights with something brighter if that helps? Originally Posted by 2018GLC300

With GLC not ready yet. Here is what I notice, yes camera could be better but sometime it switches into night mode or something and its acceptable, but most of the time its not, I'm not sure how dark it should be before it does goes into night vision mode.

Does turning on the rear fog lights help? Or doesn't your year car have them?
Have you tried replacing the backup bulbs with a high output LED bulb?

Why would you be backing up with a driver behind you?

Another was to use the fog lights. From @GeneS as I recall. 🙂Originally Posted by DanD.

License plate lights point down so are unlikely to annoy other drivers but since they point down they are also unlikely to improve rear camera vision. The brighter light might actual impair the camera more.Originally Posted by DanD.

Does it blind the rear driver that much? If so, nevermind. Originally Posted by DanD.

Was hoping since it is beside the backup camera, the illumination will help, guess not.Originally Posted by GLCDon
