GLC300 AWD Transfer Case Fluid Change

Has anybody here done the transfer case fluid yet?
I thought it would be easy, like most other vehicles. Top screw, bottom screw. Fill up till top. Done

Reading WIS, that is not the case. Its like the transmission where you need to fill it through the drain hole?

Also instructions say "Insert new overflow pipe into transfer case"
I cannot find the part for the new overflow pipe. Also the fill procedure is a bit cryptic.

"If less than 50 ml of oil flow out of the transfer case, Add 100 ml to the hand pump and repeat operation step 12. If more than 50 ml of oil flows out of the transfer case the transfer case is sufficiently filled, continue with operation step 15"

Benzninja helped me figure it out.

Seems there is a filler pipe A725-281-03-00. Also need the adapter probably- A213-589-00-90-00

They do like to make things difficult

I have done it myself. Yes, there is a little pipe you have to pull with a picker, drain and put it back in.

First step you unscrew the level screw, just a little.
open drain plug, take a picker and pull a little tube.
its a very small tule try not to lose it.
drain the fluid
put the pipe back it, use drain plug to push it back,
unscrew the drain plug again.
attach an adapter and start pumping the fluid back.
don't remember how much its in the wis.
Bring clean empty container.
disconnect adapter
it should drain some oil back.
Measure how much if its less then what is in wis
Pump more and repeat.
screw level bolt back.

Procedure more like trany service, but no temp requirements.

Not too bad, I did TC and both diffs in about 2 hours.
Oil stinks so bad ))

please see attached wis.

Thank you, thats a good explanation.
What I dont understand is. If 50ml drips out, then you have to put more in. If 100ml comes out, then you are good. But wont the level be the same in the end if 50ml or 100ml comes out?
Of do you basically see how much comes out, if more than 50ml comes out then immediately close it up.

If less than 50 ml of oil flow out of the transfer case, Add 100 ml to the hand pump and repeat operation step 12.
If more than 50 ml of oil flows out of the transfer case the transfer case is sufficiently filled, continue with operation step 15.

I did it last weekend. The tools you will need. 6mm hex, torx, the adapter and a new pipe insert. I also had a new drain bolt. Instructions says to replace with new one each time.
I used Liqui Moly 1900. Thats what came up on their site

Then just loosen the screw next to the drain bolt (torx), then the bolt. Only a little fluid will come out. Remove the plastic tube, and a lot will come out. Its a mess. I used a little allen wrench I cut and bent and that worked well for the tube.

Finally connect the adapter and pump a bit more back in than you got out. Mine was around 400 ml. I put in 500 ml. Then let it drain out. Instructions say if more than 50ml comes out, you are good. As soon as you hit air, close the tube, put the new drain bolt in and you are good to go. Torque on the drain bolt was like 25Nm. For the Torx I just made it tight. Its a mess if you are on your back. Not difficult job, just messy.

WIS said the filling capacity was 650ml, so just ignore that?

Start with 650. But you wont be able to put exactly 650 in there. Whatever you put in, some of it will drain out, so there is just no way to get the exact amount in.
I think if less than 50ml comes out, it is probably all in the little pipe and not filled to the top. If more than 50ml comes out, wait for the air to start coming out, that would mean the level is right at the top of the little pipe insert. Be quick. Let us know how it worked out for you.

Its easier than I expected, but also messier.
My truck has a drain hole and a fill hole. You drain at the bottom and fill until fluid reaches the top hole. So easy. This one hole thing is a bit ridiculous

I’m glad I saw this because it’s different than what I thought I needed to do. I have a GLC 43 and was going to do what the following video suggested:

I didn’t realize I needed to fill it similar to the transmission.

Where did you get the insert and what was the part number?

I got my pipe replacement from MB when I bought the fluids. I’ll have to check the p/n.

The fill adapter (the chrome bit) is the ATF 109 fitting

Please check for part number for tube and drain plug. I didn't replaced them first time but want to do it next time. Thank you.

Here you go. I purchased everything needed for front and rear differentials, transmission, and transfer case.

You can match them up here: https://www.lllparts.co.uk/product/A...il-filler-pipe

Is it possible that the transfer case shares the fluid with the transmission and changing the trans fluid would include the transfer case? The fluid spec is the same.

Job was messy as stated above, but straightforward after re-reading the instructions. This video is specific to X253 and was an exact match to my 2018.
