Hole under wireless charger

I was driving today and the active brake assist kicked in when driving through an underpass. Suspecting that it was because of the sudden shift from bright to shadow. There was an orange soda in the cup holder and half of the content spilt. I tried to clean as much as possible but noticed that there was a hole under the wireless charging pad rubber.
Anyone knows if that's a drain? I'm afraid that the sugar water will cause damage to some wires.

I just checked mine. Are you referring to the circle with a Phillips cross marking in the centre? It doesn’t appear to be a hole. It feels sealed with my finger.

I took a video and it looks like it's a hole. No idea where it leads to though.

You're correct. Just did the same thing with my phone and it does look like there's a hole with a silver screw at the bottom. Silly design. I might just seal off the opening with tape to prevent any spills from going into it. Not sure why they would design it this way.
Hopefully the rubber stopped the majority of your orange soda from getting through.

Is it for ventilation to dissipate heat? Someone need to take it apart to know I guess. I wonder if there is anything on EPC.

I think it is a good guess that it is for smart phone cooling due to the fact that the rubber pad over it is perforated and has small bumps to raise it and allow air movement. If so, this is a good, unadvertised feature.

Very interesting. My GLC wireless charger is the only in-car charger that I've used that doesn't heat up my phone. Maybe it's an A/C vent for phone cooling? Kind of like some cars have that little vent in consoles and glove boxes.

This would make the most sense. I tried holding my finger above the hole while driving my car today and I didn't feel any air coming out of it. Unless it's only active when the phone is placed on top of the rubber pad. I don't see any fans either.
The chances of fluids entering this area are slim, but it's still a silly design choice. If fluids do enter this hole, and if there are electric components underneath, they are likely to get damaged. It looks like they designed it better with the new Electric GLC where the wireless chargers are in a separate area slightly higher than the drink holders.

It does seem so, wish they at least waterproof the components beneath but they won't for example older MB's centre console has buttons and if you spill a drink you might fry the circuit on top of making everything sticky. With the new screens, this is no longer an issue. My point was, I don't think MB ever considered waterproofing the electricals around the cup holders.
