Should I buy the extended warranty

I have 8 months left on the factory warranty on my Wife’s GLC its a 22 with 18K miles we only drive about 5K or less a year to pick up the 7/75 to get 3 more years is $3243 trying to decide with the low miles we drive is it really worth getting would love to hear some opinions.

If it has been reliable to this point, put that cash into a GIC and you should be much better off.

I've never bought the extended warranties in the past, but am now reconsidering, given how complicated cars have become and how expensive service is. My former 2019 Acura RDX (also a turbocharged 4 cylinder) blew a head gasket just out of warranty, but because of the design it was an engine-out fix, costing nearly $8k! And this right before I was planning on selling the car, making it especially irksome. So I'd say it depends on whether you'd rather risk not needing major service knowing a 5 figure bill could come your way.

If you're looking for longer options, like 4-5 years of extended warranty you can send me an email at my information below for pricing, deductibles, and an example contract that explains coverage. Repairs accepted at all Mercedes-Benz dealers and licensed independents in the US. Talk to you soon!

If the 3 years for 3243 is a factory warranty extension from the dealer, I would say it's worth it unless you plan on getting rid of the car within a year or two.

Unfortunately newer MB generations like the w206, x254 are not as reliable as past models. My 22 w206 was in and out of the dealer so many times I almost lemoned it. Everything from the sunroof to the fuel pump had to be repaired or replaced at some point. Our 23 w206 hasn't had any issues so far besides creaking in the suspension which they fixed. Our 25 x254 GLC350e has been the best car we've ever owned and hasn't had any issues for a year so far. Definitely recommend looking into it if you want to stick to the glc class and have a charger at home - fill up the tank less than once a month.

The 22 GLC is the final model year of the x253 until the x254 was introduced in 23. It is probably more reliable than newer GLCs since it was refined and facelifted over years. That being said, you can also put the 3.3k toward a new generation x254 with the big screen, lights, and more tech. It all boils down to how long you plan on keeping the 22.

I know leasing is not for everyone but your low annual mileage sounds like you should be a prime candidate for it! Your car will also always be in the warranty period while leasing!

Here's my .02 on it. Think about the ultimate beneficiary of the amount $3xxx, cost of the warranty. Let's say you DON'T buy the warranty. In that case, estimate the amount of money you expect to leave behind (inheritance) when you ultimately depart the place called earth xx years from now. Is that amount (inheritance) big enough that $3xx less won't be noticeable? If so, I say blow it now and buy some peace of mind for yourself in the name of warranty. Otherwise, your son-in-law and/or daughter-in-law will be happy to blow it for you, and not think of you even once!

In the short term, you will likely not have issues based on your usage and experience so far.. but blowing that extra $3xxx will be worth it if you have it. There's nothing like parking a car and walking away from it when something does come up.

One other angle is that may be take it out of your charitable contribution budget - Charity begins at home! Not just that, spending money is the best way of doing charity in my opinion. It's not as glorified as donating to say a cancer hospital, but your money will make difference of many people employed by MB and suppliers.

I believe if you buy the factory extended warranty, and you decide to sell the vehicle before the 3 year period ends, you can cancel the warranty and get a pro-rated refund based in the time left.

Correct, there are a couple options when it comes to exiting extended warranty coverage, ie: credit to new coverage, transfer of coverage to a new owner, or your typical money back.
